well, your body develops until roughly 25, so you should improve even with identical training from hs to college. You are stronger and smarter (hopefully lol).
Example, I had great training in high school and did great, I was state champ in mile 2x, xc 2x, team xc 2. college I was hurt a lot and had poor training. I still ran slightly faster than high school.
will always wonder if I could have stayed uninjured what I could have run.

You have to go back 9 years ago to get someone who was a Footlocker Champ who did something of note in college (Solinsky, 3rd in 2005).
Cormier joined the Marines. Didn't do anything running-wise, but only ran a couple years before leaving school. He did finish 28th as a freshman. I think he was injured a bunch as a sophomore and then left school. Hard to say what he would have done.
Withrow finished 9th, 24th, and 17th in NCAA XC. That doesn't qualify as a bust.
Is it that surprising that a 5k champ in HS doesn't always pan out to be a good 10k runner in college?

he ran 8:40's in steeple under Ron, 8:40 last year
he would have run at least what he ran l;ast year and this year in cross had Ron still been there.

Just a small clarification. Chad Hall did not run 100 mile weeks in high school. He did run 90 mile weeks however.
