If anything, you let down your team by focusing on this website and getting your egotistical opinions out there. I'm pretty sure Cornell sits in the bottom of the Ivy league....and even lost to Buffalo today. And yes, Verzbikas is better at triathlons than you are at running a website...so maybe you shouldn't quit on your team so much.

For a freshman, he was very good.

Why not? His decision hurt his team regardless of his status as world junior whatever-whatever. You wouldn't be pissed if your teammate quit on you at the most crucial point of the season?

First off, track is not a sport, its athletics. Second off, track stars are like Gods. They have achieved objectively what others couldn't. You know man Jesus was stoned because he remained a virgin, Jews knew they could not do it.

Anybody who has run for a good college cross team understands why quitting the team right before the championship season is a classless move.

Then again they weren't going to contend anyways. If they had been ranked top 2 or 3 and had a shot to win I wonder if all you that are defending him would feel the same.

What people have failed to mention too is that Gedyon will not be competing for the ducks due to his struggles in JuCo. Oregon lost a 4:02 and an 8:29 guy in one class...

While USATF was busy paying off Logan, preparing to crown Lanana as CEO (after London 2012), and bequeathing Hightower, Chaplain, Wittenberg, Wickens, etc. perk recipients for life... the jockstraps at UsaTriathlon dispatched their ninjas, slid their way into the smelly, unkept, filthy UO dorms and hijacked Phil Knight's and Nike's Pride and Joy, Lukas Verzbickas. What a laugh ! And they did it during the daytime on a weekday when class was in session ;-)

You poor sports. Lukas didn't quit anything. He turned pro and accepted the dream deal for any athlete and has provided for his little sisters and brothers and his mom. Stop being a bunch of selfish little p r i c k s.

Since when is being on a team, and voluntarily leaving it due to no other circumstances other than those brought on you by yourself, not called quitting?

I don't have a problem with him making the jump to triathlon. He has to do what's best for him and his family. But why bail on your teammates two weeks out from the end of the season? Couldn't he tough it out just a little longer for the sake of being a good teammate and give them a shot at advancing?

I didn't read all the threads, but maybe I'm missing something. Let's say I was Vin and LV comes to me and says, I want to leave the team, go to Colorado to live my Olympic dream. I just realized that, although I'm number 1 junior in Tri, I may not be top 50 junior in running anymore. So I want to go to Colorado to train for the Tri.

Ok LV, I can appreciate that. You know what, I can even support you in your dream. Furthermore, I can say that you have a lot of talent in running and that won't go away. You are selling yourself short in running, you are better than a top 50. Can we make a deal? There's only a couple more weeks of XC left. The team needs you. You became world Tri champ last year and were able to win FL. If you agree to stay and run for the next few weeks and help the team, i would be ok for you to follow your normal XC/Tri training during that period. On the flip side, let's say you get a shoulder injury or something and you can't do the Tri anymore, then there will always be a spot for you here. Ok, coach, I'll do the last 2 races for you.

How do we know that DIDN'T happen, but LV responded, "sorry coach, I gots to go!"

Regardless of was or was not said, it's hard to defend anyone who bails on their team under such circumstances. Youth and immaturity are not excuses in this case.

Based on the facts provided, there is no defense for LV's actions. If, however, there are facts and circumstances we are not aware of, I could change my opinion.
