Running around the Jersey City Armory was like being in a bombed out city. Half the buildings are boarded up, there's rubble everywhere, and people keep trying to get you to stop.
Camden, NJ is pretty uncomfortable, but I never felt unsafe. People just kind of stare at you in an unsettling way.

Not dangerous but depressing as hell, miles and miles of identickit, nasty looking apartment blocks; unbelievable traffic- motorbikes driving down pavement and cars that had no conern for such things as traffic; combined with appalled locals who made it their business to shout "laowai" (foreigner) at me, or even try to chase me; and smog, it was weeks before my spit retured to a normal colour.
Almost put me off running. Apparently the area is rife with triads and prostitution too.

In high school, our home cross country course was on the edge of the Brooklyn Homes public housing projects in South Baltimore. We used to run through the projects all the time and there were occasional issues, but the people were used to seeing us and (for the most part) left us alone. I was working a part-time job at the time and told one of my co-workers where we practiced every day and he said: "If someone told me to go run through there, I'd tell him to go f*ck himself." Looking back, it actually was pretty dangerous.
Running in Kingston, Jamaica with my teammate to his parent's house. He picked up the pace at one point, saying it was a bad part of town. But I grew up just outside of Camden, NJ, so I don't think Kingston was that bad.
I got jumped in South Bend, Indiana walking from Notre Dame's campus to the hotel. I spun away and ran. Easily got away from them.

The very rural areas were honestly the worst though. I've gotten charged by bulls in heat, chased by very aggressive farm dogs, threatened at gun-point by aggressive farmers... they just aren't used to white people out there, especially not white people running around in t-shirts and running shorts.
Technichally Belize isn't "Latin America" because they speak English, but San Ignacio, Belize was the least comfortable I have felt running. Once you get outside of town, there are these endless shacks with people yelling "run, white boy, run!" and dogs chasing you. I was also there in the summer, and it was WAY too hot and humid to be outside, let alone running. At least they were dirt roads, though.

Lol.. I'm 110% serious, I have run there. It was the single worst "vacation" of my life. I was more forced to go by my Aunt who paid for my entire family without really asking us if that's how we wanted to spend Christmas. I'm not sure how to prove it other than showing pictures of me on the islands around the mainland. I think the worst part was not the penguin shit but the fact it was daylight almost the entire time which made sleeping next to impossible. I'm not sure what National Geographic has covered about penguins but they are the most disgusting animal I've ever seen. When they poop you can hear it and it literally SHOOTS out of their asses. They slide all over the islands and 90% of the time they are sliding in their own piles of doody.
have always been more afraid of animals than people. I have in through "dicey" neighborhoods in NYC, LA, Middle East, etc., I would not hang out there, but if you are just running through no one is going to run after you and beat you up. Worst I've gotten is a: "Hey, what you running from?" I'm much more afraid of the dogs that wealthy people take off leashes during walks in their expensive neighborhoods.
I was working on a project down at the Naval Research Laboratory for a time, and a few times I'd bring my shoes and go for a run after work...mainly to avoid the DC rush hour. First few times I just ran around Anacostia Park, and that was fine. After that got boring though I ventured out into the surrounding neighborhoods....not a good idea. I don't know what that particular area is called other than Southeast DC. I had a couple guys yell "We gonna kill you (insert racial slur here)". I didn't push my luck any further. That was the last time I ran down there.
Rural ohio. I had a guy cross a double yellow to run me off the road and crazy hicks unleashing dogs on me.
On holiday in Spain, I viewed a perfect looking trail up some far hills though binoculars and wondered vaguely what all those white dots were alongside the trail.
When I ran to there, too late, I found the white dots were bee hives - angry bees!
Tried to run through at speed, but still got stung 78 times.
There was one bit of good fortune - two very pretty Dutch tourists back at the hotel used their tweezers to pull the stings out, that’s how I know the amount.

Yeah - that. Providence has some nasty sections. I ended up in Olneyville once by accident, tried to get through there as quick as possible.
I was running on a path along the Mersey in Liverpool and had a bunch (about a couple dozen) of school kids throwing rocks at me. I threw some back and high tailed it out of there.
Got lost trying to run in Istanbul once. Ended up in a poor neighborhood with people burning little fires on the side of the street. But nothing happened - just a lot stares, and at least they weren't automatic carrying weapons.
The most dangerous? Probably West Oakland.
