i'm impressed at the level of hate directed toward LSU, a mid-pack (at best) distance program. it's impressive, even by letsrun standards.
Mississippi State women 12th??? They finished 5th last year and did not lose a single runner. Have run against LSU and Tenn and beaten them. Have a good chance to finish 4th. The battle will be between Vandy and Arkansas on womens side.

What can anyone tell us about Steve Keith, Vandy's coach. Seems like his women are getting better.

Yes, I was pretty impressed with their coaches talking with them after the Wisconsin meet and observing them before. I have a little bit of bias since I have a nephew that went there but...
COACHES
He cares about his runners as people and not just runners. They remind me of the team atmostphere like Florida State. Student Athletes that have fun. Steve is a great coach.
The same cannot be said for Pete Watson
MSU women last...really. I suppose some don't bother to look at results before they post speculations.
I think Keith went to Vandy and was a philosophy major, perhaps making for a useful blend to understand the student-athlete. He's really cranked it up this year. He also sends a second seven to big meets like Pre-Nats, guying the future kids some valuable experience.
This year? They were a tough team last year as well. It takes time to build a national caliber team. Perhaps if they went to 1 or 2 bigger meets last year they wouldve gotten more respect which they deserved. They brought in a talented class this year which will have 1, and possibly 2 freshman in the top 7. Look for this team to challenge nats this year and in the future.
and my prediction, Vandy will run away with SECs in the womens race. No team will be close.
how is Vanderbilt's mens team so terrible? They have the same coach as the womens team. At most academically strong schools (Stanford, UVA, Duke, Emory, Haverford, NYU, etc), good runners want to attend and run for the team.

No scholarships and no men's track team.
LSU's distance runners routinely get worse in college from HS. What is Elliot doing over there again?
Are yall serious, the UT women are gonna bring up last or 11th, have you seen them in meets this year? Neither have I since they are finishing as we get on the bus. And no, unfortunately no solid strip clubs in knoxville, head to the old city tho if you want a good pint and atmosphere, barley's is the ish

What is it like at UNC under Pete Watson? Both UNC and Vandy are great academic schools. How would you compare the training areas, coaching, future success, etc. between the two. If you were a female coming out of HS which would you choose?
for starters, Just do a simple search on letsrun threads for the 2 schools/programs. There will be no negatives on Vandy; however, UNC is flooded with negatives.
Nashville is a great place to live and train. Coach Keith is a great coach and cares about his runners as student athletes and people. They are true student athletes that enjoy running. Vandy is a great institution. They have a great freshman class this year and a standout sophmore so the future is bright. He recruits successful students that develop, IE he doesnt go to recruit in canada.
UNC is a good school but has been known to run his runners into the ground and many have rumored to have eating disorders (just look at team pictures and you will see why this isnt a far stretch). Watson isnt afraid to recruit canadians and violate recruiting rules.
In a short way to answer your question, Vandy over UNC in a heartbeat. Choose Vandy if you can get that type of education and running atmosphere. If success is important to you, just look at results.
