John Carlos thinks that Bolt is on drugs.

IF Carlos believes that Bolt is on drugs, he's right.

I don't know about it destroying the sport, however--Bolt has single-handedly put T&F back on the map.

He's an international sensation, the same as Ben Johnson was, but he is even better than Johnson in PR kind of way. People around the world loved Johnson because he was kicking American a$$, not necessarily because of who he was as a person.

Bolt is not only kicking American a$$, but is also a somewhat charismatic individual (to children, adolescents, and emotionally-regressive people around the world). To T&F, he represents money.

Bolt IS track and field.

Would it be the same had he not used drugs? Doubtful.

Would T&F be better without a drug-fueled Bolt? What you would have would be, likely, Gay in the 100/200. Same old, some American guy that the ROW doesn't care about--and he has no charisma to boot.

Or maybe it would be Powell, who is totally boring compared to Bolt, and who never achieved widespread marketability.

What would be left? Vlasic? Tall, thin, some think she's hot--she's good, but the pre-eminent position probably has to be held by a man, for no reason other than the majority of the fans are male, and young boys look up to men as role models more so than they do to women. Personally, I'd take Vlasic over Bolt any day--or even better, every day. Twice.

Or some hot Russian female? All they seem to care about is $$$$$$, and it seems that none have a marketable personality, for whatever reason.

Or how about some caricature like Philips Idowu? Guys like him are a joke, and have a short half-life.

Bottom line, Bolt has "done more for T&F" than Carlos ever did.

Unfortunately, he has also "done more TO T&F" than Carlos ever did.

I just want to make sure that Carlos and the posters here who speak with such authority about Bolt being on drugs are saying that purely on the basis that Bolt is just "too good." Right? You can't have someone be that much better than everyone else, right?

So how do you explain a Wilt Chamberlain in basketball (averaged 50 points a game, scored 100 in one game), or even a Michael Jordan? Or a Tiger Woods in his glory days? They were so much better than their competitors it was absurd. Drugs? Or an Einstein, can anyone really be that much smarter than everyone else? Drugs?

Outliers do happen. Bolt may be on drugs, I don't know. But being "too good" is not proof.

Good point. It's all about the stiff ankles/knee joints with Bolt, from what science says. And hard work + really modern training. Bolt gets massage for revovery before/after every workout (?) and race, for example. Don't think they cared much about the little things in the 1960s.

There's alot of suspicion surrounding Rupp, Ritzenhien, Solinsky, Farah, Barringer-Simpson, Eaton, etc. You sorta have to give genetics (Centro Jr, Flanagan) a break though.

I agree that Bolt is on something and that the IAAF and other fedearations do a little as possible to catch known dopers like Bolt.

Sports is entertainment and drugs make it more entertaining. If I was somebody whose financial future depended on my athletic performance, I would be on drugs too. And I would definitely not feel quilty of anything. Not a bit.

I would laugh at the privileged and rich people, who watch sports from tv and eat hot dogs. They could never be professional athletes.
