No, America sports are the only ones that matters. That's why the NBA champions are called World Champions. Or the NFL champs the world champs and so on... If we weren't the champs we wouldn't call ourselves the world champs.

No, just sports in general. Independent of sex. So all the answers have been male.
You might want to list sports that anyone outside the US gives a crap about. Or, perhaps you are one of those Americans who is certain that the US is the best country in the world, despite not owning a passport?

Soccer, basketball, T&F - I'm pretty sure people outside the US care about those sports, and a number of the others listed. Even if they didn't, what would be wrong with an American talking about American sports?
Baseball - Hank Aaron. I maintain that he played much better competition that Ruth did, and with all those home runs (755 which to me is still the record) and all those hits (3771 - 3rd all time), all those all star games (21 in a row), all those RBIs (2297, 1st all time), and a .305 batting average too against MUCH better pitching AND fielding...he was better than Ruth.
Supercross - Jeremy McGrath
Rubik's cubes (3x3x3 and other variations) - Feliks Zemdegs
MMA - Anderson Silva or Jose Aldo
Tiddlywinks - Larry Kahn
Women's aggressive inline skating - Fabiola da Silva.
baseball - michael jordan
basketball - michael jordan

Freestyle wrestling: Cael Sanderson
john smith was MUCH better and had much more achievements in freestyle wrestling, russia has numerous wrestlers who had better freestyle careers than cael sanderson.
i will say cael sanderson was the best and most dominant collegiate wrestler (folkstyle) at least in the last 40 years, maybe the best and most dominant ever though a strong case could be made for danny hodge as danny hodge was also undefeated in college competion pinning all, but 2 opponents,
hodge pinned all of his opponents at NCAA in under a minute.
the award for the best college wrestler is called the hodge, named after him, cael sanderson won the hodge.
baseball-Ted Williams 521 HR's. lifetime BA .344 missed at least 4 years in the prime of his career due to military service. THe greatest player in the greatest baseball era--fattie Ruth not even close.
Basketball--Magic Johnson. Won a title as a rookie (MJ not till 7 years in). Won with several completely different groups--Kareem, Nixon, Wilkes as a rookie, then later with Worthy and Scott. Passed, scored, rebounded. Greatest team player in a team game.
Running--Geb who else could race with El G in his younger days, hold the WR in the marathon for 3 years, and still be considered a threat at age 38.
Table tennis--Jan Waldner.
Shooting--Rob Leatham.

i should have said sanderson won the hodge 3 times.
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world
Hockey is in Canada, America hasn't won gold in decades
Nascar has the most fans of an American sport
Jerry Rice only caught passes from Montana no way he is the GOAT.
Greco Roman Wrestling
**********************
Aleksandr Karelin
This guy was pretty cool!!!
Each morning Karelin would rise, drink half a gallon of milk and leave the house for runs through the Siberian forest. Often he ran for two hours in thigh-deep snow. "Then you are wet with sweat and snow and thoroughly exhausted," says Karelin. "You come home, crawl into bed and sleep soundly. This is typical Siberian fun."
Mountaineering - Reinhold Messner
Cricket - Don Bradman
Freestyle Wrestling - neither Smith nor Sanderson - Buvaisar Saitiev - 3 Olympic Gold medals, 6 World Championships - just a total stud.
Cael Sanderson, by comparison, has one Olympic title, and zero World titles.
John Smith is a little more credible, but Saitiev is the best Freestyle wrestler ever.
Cricket - Bradman
Cycling - Indurain
Tennis - Federer
Greco-Roman - Karelin
While there is no doubt that Sanderson was very good, Frightened Inmate has it right with Buvaisar Saitiev, it's not even close. And as for the person who said Jose Aldo is the GOAT of MMA, what? when we're talking about the greatest of all time, it's gotta be the last emperor: FEDOR EMELIANENKO. Sure he's fallen off his throne lately, but no one can match his undefeated streak. Although an argument can be made for both Anderson Silva and GSP (and Jon Jones in five years if he stays focused).
1.Basketball-Michael Jordan
2.Football-Tom Brady
3.Hockey-Wayne Gretzky
4.Baseball-Babe Ruth
5.Boxing-Muhammad Ali
6.Soccer-(Europe) Lio messi (Any where else) Pele
Jerry Rice?? Haha
Wayne Gretzky?? Haha
