I suspect the answer lies in the sheer number of sprinters. In most countries, if you can run 10.10, you make the team in the 100m. In the US, you're forced to move up.

good answer bredda.
You didn't pick a very good year to ask this question.
4 of the 5 fastest runners in the world this year are not American.
Why are they so good at 400m in Grenada?

I've often thought that the proliferation of American high school dual meets, with their meet-ending 4x400m relay, has something to do with it. A lot of "possibles" run in those, and talents who otherwise might stay in the 100/200 end up getting spotted as "belonging" in the 400.
I think you are on to something here. The 100 and 200 are events where you need the right genes whereas most people can train for and improve in the 400 significantly. Also, anything more than 1 lap scares most American kids away. But yeah, everyone gets a chance to run in the 4x400. It seems each high school fields 3 or 4 teams at then end of the meet. Even in college we had a B or C team running the 4x400.

You kkk spambots don't no shit about the grammar.
I think you would have to have grown up in a black area to understand this, but everyone runs the 400 in high school. You are either not fast enough in the 100 or refuse to jog an 800.
4X4 athletes are like superstars as it is the only event people know how to watch.
And yes, the best teams collectively outrun cops at night.
It has nothing to do with breeding though because there was a year we had a white guy on our team who we made crash-dummy and made him do all these terrible things at night to prove himself. The guy got really good at hopping fences and sprinting for a long time and made our 4X400.
If income disparities were reversed in America, poor areas would not be so good at 400.

Haha, I was going to say 400 meters is as far as most cops can run!
