Could someone please explain to me why Elton John is so famous.

Why I don't understand is why you came here instead of just googling him. You would have found his wiki page that would have explained.

Elton John tried to be straight.

He married a woman at first.

He finally "chose" to follow the path that he was born to be. Where his instintcive urges were.

He was always gay. He just stopped fighting it.

Then why is he in articles saying it was an image thing? He wasn't trying to be straight.

Being gay isn't a choice. Did you make the conscious decision to be straight? Neither did I. I just AM straight. Some people are just gay, and there's nothing wrong with that.

This "choice" stuff is such a red herring.

A pedophile doesn't "choose" to be attracted to children, but it's still illegal to have sex with children. A rapist doesn't "choose" to find rape gratifying, but rape is still illegal. A polygamist doesn't "choose" to want to have sex with multiple women, but bigamy is still illegal. People in incestuous relationships don't "choose" to be sexually attracted to close relatives, but incest is still illegal. Exhibitionists don't "choose" to be sexually excited by exposing themselves in public, but it's still illegal. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Basically nobody "chooses" what sexually excites them, but that has nothing to do with whether the conduct should be illegal or not. With the most obvious example -- child molesters -- there's lots of proof that they can't help themselves and there's a very high recidivism rate. That's completely irrelevant to whether the conduct should be illegal.

Anyway, whether there should be gay marriage or not, etc. has nothing to do with whether anyone "chooses" to be sexually excited by members of the same sex. What should or shouldn't be legal is an entirely separate question.

To get back on topic, Elton John is famous because he's a great performer and musician and a very good composer of pop music. None of which has anything to do with whether he is gay.

A song called Idol somewhat foreshadows the drop in quality and addition of bubble gum feel to much of his songwriting. Why famous? Even his bad songs (Philadelphia Freedom) are catchy. The great songs abound, but most were early on. Wealth and fame and all. :-)Philadelphia Freedom, admittedly a poor song, was actually meant as a sports anthem and written for Billie Jean King and her pro tennis team (yes, such a league was attempted). As for the trashy or political comments. Ugh. You have dropped this comment chain to a level that is even below the Webb, Rupp, Solinsky, AirBNB levels. Yuck.
