It was actually quite well written. However, the insinuation that Homo sapiens evolved and survived due to running is not supported in the current scientific literature. It attempts (poorly) to over simplify the extraordinarily complex and growing new research supporting multiple origins. It is now responsible for untold numbers or new visits to podiatrist and orthopedists from new “minimalist” runners. As a work of fiction I give it one bloody toe up!

My brother read it. He's not a runner, but since he read the book, he now he is an expert on minimalist running. Probably never run more than 4 miles in his life. It's like putting "Atlas Shrugged" in the wrong hands.
I should clarify: never done a run more than 4 miles in his life.
Definitely. I didn't think I'd like it when I found out it was about ultra-running. I've been a runner for 29 years and ultra-marathoning has never interested me in the least. But I still found it to be a very good read. Don't get too caught up about all the barefoot running stuff, but there is some validity to what is said about that, in my opinion.
He lacks validity in his "facts". Yes they run almost barefoot, but they are also not overweight like the average American "runner".
In all seriousness, not sure who to blame for making this a fiction. Maybe the author had a good story but just chose a bad publisher.
