Distance runners are such losers because the way competitive running is set up there is only one winner and everyone else is a loser. Thus the majority of the participants lose most of the time, and are thus losers. For the people who buy into this way of thinking the loser mentality pervades into the rest of their lives. For the runner, winning is a rare thing only reserved for an elite few.
That's my theory anyway, and it's part of why I don't race.
I mean... even on this board, there are distance runners attacking other distance runners for stupid posts they make.
Someone runs a 13:00 5K or whatever and a dozen people on this board will say they are "done."
Go to a high school party and who do you think is going home with the prom queen? And then, who is going home alone to pleasure themselves to porn?
Distance running has to be one of the most socially unhealthy "sports" ever invented.
Seriously.
Which kind of high school party do you think would attract more interesting girls?
A party with 100 skinny white socially-inept angry at the world cross-country track dorks... or a party with people from "real" team sports and other people who can hold a conversation for more than 20 minutes without mentioning running.
Losers. Get another sport. You get laughed at every day. You're a joke.
Hello OP
If I was talking to you face to face, and you said this, I's cave in your face. the government spent tons of money on me, and I'd love to see it pay off.
However, lacking that, I'll tell you the following truths:
1- Super-jocks i.e. football, basketball stars, etc. rule the day in high school. Beyond that, it's not even close. Year-round sports, such as swimming, distance running, produce this country's top of the GPA list in "student-athletes" in colleges.
2- When the high school class reunions roll around, they typically go like this; (I know, I'm older than 35) 5 year reunion, the super jock is still talking trash, and relying on his youth and superior athletic ability, and feels there is no need to workout. Brags to everyone about college parties and does not ask anyone anything about them.
10 year reunion; Those same "geeks and running nerds" who scored high on SAT's , and you called a loser are now making a good living, most with an Ivy league education, and are now the apple of the former hot girl's eyes. The high school super jock, has a paunch belly, talks about his "almost's and what if's", and tries to hide his balding head and scuffed shoes due to lack of funds.
20 year: It's a joke. The former skinny xc runners are married, nice cars, nice wife, huge house, tons of money, smart, smart kids, and already planning for retirement, with a great head start on that. The high school super jock? Those that are not too embarrassed to show, are fat, out-of shape, and as Bruce Springsteen mocked "keep talking about glory days!"
But those have been over for 20 years. And the majority of former super jock's life is filled with regret, while the former xc runner, still runs, is fit and trim, and actually feels sorry for the former super jock ( like you)
In short, more distance runners are still looking trim and fit , well into their 70's than anyone else. And, statistics don't lie. check it out. Well over 75% of all public and private high schools in this country, have the xc teams as the sport with the school's highest GPA. And, on the rare occasion they are not #1, they are usually #2 or #3. But in the country overall, they are far and above #1 in that category.
Enjoy your Budweiser bath-water at the local bar, and be sure to remind everyone there what a great athlete you used to be every 30 minutes. I'll be the one running by your sad, sorry a$$, just outside the pub, and back to the nice side of town, to my wife, and children (who all go to private schools).

I can only assume the original poster is a sprinter
I meet this gys all the time at social events. They are usually bald and fat by 40.
While these "skinny white guys" are still going strong.
And, statistics show that high school and college cross country teams typicaly have the highest team GPA.,
And, cross country runners are more likely to be engineers or doctors.
Sprinters don't watch the track meet. They don't care about "team" only "me"
Go to any typical high school or college meet and watch. You will see, I'm right.
