You misread the comment. This means his plateau was last year. So far that is true. Rupp hasn't shattered anything this year.

More important to note:
Have we ever sent a better team to a global 5000m championship? For probably the first time ever the rest of the field is going to have to assure a fast pace or risk having anywhere from 1-3 Americans bury them in the kick. Maybe we will see 3 Americans in the top 6 at Daegu.

How many 5ks close faster than that on the world stage? I'm not being sarcastic, I really don't know what's typical in terms of final 800s. I would guess right around 1:55ish, with the last 400 being well under 55 and the last mile being around 4:00 with a big negative split (2:05-1:55).
Isn't that what happened, today, just 10-15 seconds back of where a WC or OC final usually ends up time wise?

Yes, a long way off from the WR; so was Farah - and it seems that most feel that Farah is certainly in the discussion for a medal in Daegu.
This was not a WR type race; it was much more like a championship race. In that regard - and in terms of a handful of other athletes in the race - this was, in fact, the WORLD STAGE.
Here are the winning times from previous World Champs races:

So 13:06 is really not the relevant statistic in the race. The much more relevant fact is that he beat Merga - widely considered to be one of the top finishers in the world and a 12:53/26:48 guy (the 26:48 was just a month ago in Eugene!), Alamirew, who ran 7:27 in Doha, and Kuma - a 13:00 guy.
Rupp closed well - in a moderately fast race - which is what he'll need to do to be in the medal hunt in Daegu..
So, while you might generally know what you're talking about, it appears that in this case you might have missed the mark.
Are you out of your mind? What do you think Mo is capable of? Given what he did at Pre and what he did today, I'd be willing to bet he's in 12:53-12:55 shape. And Galen is right behind him.
It's clear that having a great training partner has been tremendous for Rupp. Not only has it gotten him in the best shape of his career, it's given him the confidence that he and Mo can run with anyone other than KB.
Get it over guys. No one can deny that Rupp is now a certifiable boss.

That was really great to watch! Things got very pushy going into the last couple of laps and people kept getting boxed in. Rupp kept his cool though and his eye on Mo the whole whole time. You could see that they were totally working together and at one point, talking with about three laps to go. Beating Merga is absolutely huge! That alone right there was worth the plane ticket over! Rupp dug down deep and powered by him! It was f@cking great to see! Ha! He looked over to his left with about 30 to go and you could see he had that, "I did it, I own you dude" look in his eyes! Ha! Mo just burned ahead and took control. He seems to have yet another gear that Rupp doesn't, but the more they train together, the closer that gap becomes in these races! I'm keep'in those fingers crossed for a sub 13 real soon! Right frick'in on!!!!!!

A year ago he looked like a sure bet to break 13:00 until he was tripped... A week later he goes 13:07.
Today he goes 13:06, running 4:00.xx for his last 1600m; do you honestly believe that he's not ready to run regularly under 13:00?
And, no, Bekele doesn't "close the last 400 of MOST ANY 5000 in 50+" - unless 52 or 53 or 54 count as "50+". If that's the case, then 57 would also qualify as "50+".
In your opinion, which runners - American or otherwise - do have the "complete package"? Do you have any stats to back up your claim that "you have to have this kind of speed to run under 13:00 consistently"? In other words, do you have some last lap splits for these "consistent sub 13:00" guys? Last laps off of fast paced races, moderate races, slow races? How else can you compare Rupp's leg speed to others? Today he went 54 in a moderately slow race (on the world level - but not nearly as slow as many championship races); can he go 56 in a 12:57 race? I'm not sure anyone knows that yet.
