That's funny considering I wheeled The Milennium Mile at 1781 yards and 1779 yards, using tangents, I know for a fact it is a mile. What did you wheel it at? Or are you just a blowhard troll?
I ran the race yesterday and almost all of the elevation drop was in the first 1/2 mile. The last 800m was a very minor downhill, but in all honesty it was mostly flat so it really was barely noticeable. That got me thinking about how fast could someone cover 800m on the course. I highly doubt there has ever been a downhill 800m race anywhere, so I'm not sure what the unofficial world record might be. But I'm sure that SOMEONE has had to have broken 1:41 since someone mentioned earlier that the world downhill mile record is 3:24 (back-to-back 1:42s).
There are bonuses for the first runner through 400m, 800m, 1200m, and the overall race winner, so I'm sure someone might be willing to go all-out for the all-downhill first 1/2 mile if they realized they could get some prize money. I'm willing to bet that a mid- 1:40s 800m runner could run in the mid- 1:30s considering it drops about 150 ft over that first 1/2 mile. Just thinking of running 1:3x for 800m is ridiculous. The Millennium Mile was in fact uncertified for the first couple of years it existed, but Mort took care of that maybe 10 years ago. And face it, not many New Hampshire road races manage to draw top American track talent like Culley and Blood, so at least these gimmicky affairs feature some marquee names.

If it took 1:30 to fall 1 mile from the top of a very high cliff, the gravitational force would be closer to 2 m/s².

Nice try but a mile is 1760 yards (440x4). No way it's long by 20 yards.

You're right. I know that the finish line was moved further down Mammoth Road from its original location, but if it's a mile there's no paperwork to prove it. The same goes for the HASLAW Mile, meaning that the claim on the front page about the 3:44 and the 4:14 being the fastest-ever miles run on U.S. soil is not legitimate (not that it was meant to be taken seriously anyway).
Although this race is not a mile, The Alta Peruvian 8k in Little Cottonwood Canyon (Salt Lake City) has, I believe, a 2100' drop. Guys that run 24-25 min. 8k are running 20-21 min.
Pretty sure Gagnon is a 1:46 guy for the 800m. That is pretty legit last I checked.

Have the top two guys run 4:00 or better for the mile? I honestly don't know. If not, I guess you would need to add more than 15 seconds. And the slower you go, the more you'd add. So we are talking maybe an average add on time of more like 20 seconds?
