Guyota was the first non-qualifier in the West Finals. He was never slotted for points at Nationals, so what's the big deal here on LR? Seems LR haters would have liked an appeal of the West final so they could whine some more. If the whiners don't like Lananna/Oregon, they should work a little harder, train better and maybe they could start competing a little better. No, whining is easier than working for it.

Sambu got into the 10k, and ran an honest effort in the 5k to not qualify in that event.
It is hardly an upset if Sambu wins the 10,000; he is the co-favorite.
I suppose there weren't a lot of people who thought Stanford would take four of the top five places in the men's 10K ... maybe three in top ten. Lowe sure ran a nice race to break up the Cardinal
True, stanford ran very well! They were certainly the team that outperformed the rest in the west regional on the men's side.
Come on guys...the clear surprise non-qualifier is Luther Ambrose not qualifying in the 100 meters. He finished 3rd last year at nationals and failed to make it back this year.
Unfortunately Christian Gonzalez got a stress fracture in his sacrum the week after his conference meet. He had to forego IC4As for worries that it would completely eliminate all hope at regionals. Although he was stuck on alternate with very little running leading up to regionals, he still competed to the best of his ability with all the pain. A disappointing end to senior year but I wish him the best in his future endeavors!
Give me a f*cking break. If a U of SwOosh runner would have been tripped like Kipchumba was in the 10k he would have been miraculously 'waived' into the NCAA final.

On the women's side, I was surprised to read about how Liz Costello of Tennessee (indoor/outdoor SEC 5k champion, all-american indoor 5k) fell twice in the last 100m and did not advance to Iowa. Apparently she was suffering from dehydration.
Another surprise, Kate Grace of Yale, dropping a 2:03.41 in the quarterfinals to win the region. A huge outdoor PR for her (previous was 2:04.22) and a great boost as she usually had a hard time producing a faster later round time in a multi-round weekend. I hope she can keep that speed for Iowa.
Jared Bassett of Portland had a good run in the steeple running 8:51 to qualify.

Last year was his first time at the regional meet. He came into the 2010 outdoor season with a modest 4:06 mile PR. Considering the high level of competition there is nowadays, without experience at that level, or with trials/finals experience under his belt, it can surely be difficult to advance in the rounds (His conference is finals only). So to criticize his coach is extremely unnecessary. The program has come an extremely long way for being a small no-name school and will most definitely continue progressing.

he finished the 2010 outdoor season with a stellar 3:42 pr and still didnt make it out of the prelims. you say it might be difficult to advance in rounds... he cant even advance 1 round.
He got beat by the same runner that beat him at Big Tens, is that a surprise? Clearly, he is not yet back to his regular level. It has probably been too long that he has been out to get back while having to be careful still (just a guess). He always seems like he is over-striding to me, but he is just to big that the impression is biased.
