My son-in-law watches ESPN, ESPN2, and Fox Sports almost exclusively. From what I've seen on those stations, the toughest thing to do, judging by how rare it is, is have an athlete use English and speak in complete sentences. The Canadian hockey players are the best.

I always thought hitting a hole in one on a golf course, wether its Pebble beach, or your local Par 3 club was damn impressive. All the variables involved, Aim, Wind direction, wind speed, Strength, green roughness, luck. Maybe not as athletic as a 3:50 mile, or a .400 hitting average, but still amazing.

Hitting a baseball, well I think must of that is just chance. Owing to the fact that the human bodys fastest nurons move at about 150mph. And the eye can only see at about 60 frames per sec. So if you have a ball moveing at you from 50m at 100Mph your allready going to have started to swing befor the ball has left the arm of the pitcher. Or your going to have made the choice of how your going to swing. And the fact that most baseball player have hit the ball less then 50% of the time. Would siggest that chance has more to do with it then anything else. Sammy and Big Mac have allways looked pritty slow in the head to me.

Now as far as track and fild go, Ten hard 400s with equal rest is about the hardest thing you can do. Anyone male or female can do this, Even when fit it will still hurt like a bitch the last lap, and for most people this is about as hard into 02 det they can push there body.

hiting a major league fastball isn't all that tough - relatively speaking. it's the breaking stuff, wicked ass off speed action, and pinpoint accuracy they toss in the majors that will turn a 3:30 hitter in AA into a little girl in about 6 at bats.

Hitting a major league pitch is easily one of the hardest things to do in sports. People train for their entire lives just to be able to bat .280! You have to be a freak to be able to hit a baseball well.

I agree that hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in sports--not the hardest. It is MUCH harder to run all out for a mile than it is to hit a baseball. It is Much harder to go fifteen rounds in boxing. It is MUCH harder to play polo skillfully while riding a horse. It is MUCH harder to return a 135mph serve for a winner in tennis.

Sucessfully return a first serve from a professional tennis player. Roscoe Tanner used to serve it up at 150 mph.

What about them little girls on the balance beam.

That has to be pretty tough.

I agree that gymnastics appears to be incredibly difficult. Considering I usually trip on my way to class every morning.

But overall -- assuming we're talking more than just eye-hand coordination -- wouldn't winning the Tour de France rank near or at the top?

How about playing Dodge Ball against a group of major league pitchers?
