In base training, you do both the 5mi harder effort and the 90min run on different days. 5mi hard with 15min warmup, 15min cooldown is about 60min.
The difference between Lydiard and Daniels: Daniels is very specific paces and workouts and a shorter base phase. Lydiard gives general guidelines for distance/time and workout intervals at suggested efforts (1/2, 3/4, etc). Efforts are subjective based on how you feel and your conditioning. They are really not as different as a lot of people seem to think.
