D2 and D3 DMR's.... Really??

I agree that people qualify to go win but by the time you get to the 800 and 1600 it is generally spread out so much that people should be running as fast as they can unless they are the 1st place team.

As I was saying look at the teams and then look at the guys that run. Most of them are not the guys that are in the 1600 and 800 prelims because the qualifying is too close to the DMR. This just waters down the race.

Also the altitude does slow teams down a bit but if you train at altitude then the amount that it slows you down is a lot less than the numbers you gave. I went to college at altitude and could run at altitude easily in races especially when we were going down to 5500 feet.

What about Detroit's robocop statue? what would it run in a DMR?

It's a fact of nature that no good D1 runners complain seriously about D2, D3 etc. It's never happened and it never will.

At the D3 nats DMR, did Amherst drop the baton? I was surprised to see them so far back, they had a great team.

Amherst had three of their four legs running in prelims a couple hours earlier (Sheetz, their 800m leg, had run the 400m and 800m prelims already in the past couple hours).

Ah, that's a shame. They were my pick to win it.

Actually, I watched the D3 DMR and it was completely bunched up until the Allegheny guy broke things up on the mile.

As has been stated before, DII Nats are at 5500 feet of altitude. Winning time after altitude conversion was more in the lines of 9:45ish. Which is still faster than Oregon ran any way you cut it.

Don't throw the talent excuse out there, that's weak. D1 kids are faster because they work harder than most all of the D2 and D3 kids. You can make excuses all day long, but D1 is better because they get the hard working runners from high school and have better coaching. Obviously the top few D2 schools could be D1 with the runners they have, but they are the only exception.

Yes, there is no difference in the talent pool between D1 and D3. Can you please tell me where you went to college so that I can make fun of your alma mater for graduating blithering idiots forevermore?

I'm going to grad school at an America East school. I went to an NCAC school for undergrad. Wanna guess which conference is faster?

It's really not that complicated:

The very best D2 and D3 runners could all run for virtually any D1 team. Very, very few of them would qualify for D1 nationals.

That makes it extremely difficult for a D2 or D3 team to field a relay that could compete with D1 teams. There are plenty of small colleges with a guy who can run 4:10, or someone who can run 1:53, or someone who can run 3:05, or a 48-second guy. There are not many schools with all four.

Plus all the stuff about tactics at nationals, it is quite unreasonable to expect sub-9:50 DMRs there.

So if you're a D1 guy who can't stand a "national champion" team running 10 flat, then you should have found three friends to go D3.

It's funny because all the good DI runners are at nationals right now and all the crummy excess are trying to make themselves feel better.

Now they'll claim they could've won DII and DIII titles, but not prove it by saying who they are.

For the record I was a bad DIII runner.

I go to an NCAC school as well. I'm sorry that schools like mine offend some people for offering an opportunity to be in a fun, competitive atmosphere despite the fact that the talent level and competition aren't the same as those in a Division I program. Heaven forbid slower people get to race after high school.

In the future I'll be more conscious of the fact that being slower than most Division I athletes offends some people. Therefore, since talent level apparantly isn't any sort of excuse for being slower, I will now choose to be faster.

In the D1 DMR:

3:05 would have put a team in DFL

48 would have put a team even further back

1:53 and even a miracle won't save you now

4:10 only happens when lil centro loses a shoe

so even if a D2/3 was able to put these "great" times together, their still getting smoked... yeah yeah yeah apples to oranges blah blah blah. still not a NATIONAL champion
