Earth's gravity would not keep in in place any more than Earth's gravity makes the moon keep a geosynchronous orbit. The difference between the moon and satellites and this helicopter is that the moon and satellites are orbiting the Earth while the helicopter is not. The mechanism that keeps them from crashing to Earth is totally different.
What you're asking is if a helicopter could hover in the air at a fixed point relative to the center of the Earth as the Earth spins beneath it.

To answer your question: could a helicopter do this? Sure. Unfortunately, its not as simple as climbing to a certain altitude and putting it in hover mode. A bunch of differenct forces will be acting on it that the pilot will have to correct for.

Actually, if you hovered above the Earth right next to the polar axis, it would be very simple.
It would circumnavigate the globe, but not if you're at the north or south pole. Those are the only two spots where the helicopter would be universally stationary.
The best part about these threads is trying to figure out which people are pretending to be stupid and which people are actually stupid.
Light's velocity differs dramatically in different directions. This is becasue of the influence of the earth's movement on the propagation of light, or the movement of heat through electromagnetic waves.

First of all, assuming that you want to accomplish this at the equator (at any other latitude you would basically be cheating) you'd first have to find a helicopter that could fly 1000 MPH. After that you can think about the "bunch of different forces...".
But first, find that really fast helicopter.

I was pulled over by a policeman the other night for not having any tail lights. I gave him that precise explanation as to why he couldn't see them, and after a few minutes of mulling it over, he asked why he still couldn't see them when stopped. That was when I told him that he was standing to the west of the tail lights, and since the earth was rotating towards the east, he was still not able to see them since he was behind the light. I offered to turn my car around so he could position himself towards the east of my tail lights, but he said it wasn't neccessary and let me go. Personally, I think he knows. And is one of them. He was willing to let me go rather than continue to discuss the whole light speed is constant nonsense.
