    Another way to say the same thing is that the geometric mean is meeting half way on a logarithmic scale.

    ln(sqrt(31*3.1)) = 0.5(ln 31 + ln 3.1)

    10 miles is fair, I think a Half would be as well...depends maybe on how the 5k runner is training.

    If its a 5k/10k type of training plan, thats not a bad set up to run a good HM at all...10k/Half are very similar training. A 1500/5k type maybe would make it less fair.

    so, 10 or Half, I guess
