I had thought of that formula more in line with the trophy wife than sex partners.

Dumbass, teachers work DIRECTLY with 17 year olds because it's their job. It's totally different. Mark Sanchez doesn't get paid to inspire children, he gets paid to win football games.
Hey dumbass, I never said 'HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER' did I...nor did I ever specify HER teacher?
The truth is it could be a kindergarten teacher who had nothing to do with teaching or inspiring high school age girls. People would still be calling for his scalp. But the best they can come up with for Sanchez is a shoulder shrug and to say 'hey, he did nothing illegal'?! So in one state he's be a criminal reviled by society (registered sex offender), and in another it's no problem right? Ridiculous.

Maybe ridiculous. But unless you plan to implement a unified global legal code ... get used to it.
Open up a book one of these days. Not that many generations ago, most women were married before the age of 17.

I was only half kidding about age divided by two plus seven. My idea would be to make that the rule, with no limit after 21 years old (same as drinking). It's far from perfect, but better (I think) than the current system.

Actually I was just drawing up a draft of the unified global legal code. Should be ready by monday!

How does that work for when someone is an odd-numbered age, like 21? The limit is 17.5?

Exactly; the beauty of the rule is that it's a sliding scale. You still have situations where the difference between legal and illegal is a matter of days, but you cut down on that by a huge amount. So, someone who is on their 21st birthday is going to have a different limit than someone who is 21 years and 364 days old. Of course, there are a whole host of problems such as determining age in days at the time of first intercourse, etc., and you may get some balking over raising the absolute limit, and you still have to set some lower limit, but I honestly don't think the age divided by two plus seven is a bad starting point.
