As far as the entire race being subjugated and forced to build the pyramids etc....that never happened. Passover is a fable. The area was attacked by Egypt at some point around 1200BC but there is no evidence of wholesale slavery. However, there is no doubt that there were so slaves taken back, as happened with all conquests.

Europe was NOT totally bastardized by the Mongols. I went through this about a year ago on this board. The Golden Horde penetrated well into Poland and even the Danube area in 1241, but turned around and left when the great Khan died and never got back to Western or Central Europe again. The farthest they ever penetrated into Europe after that was Bulgaria and Romania, and they were unable to even take the Bulgars after 1283. The Golden Horde ruled basically what is now Western Russia and the Baltic States. And they did NOT rule it in peace for 300 years either. The Golden Horde was in civil war for at least half that time, and in a war with the Tamerlanes as well. The last gasp of the golden Horde was an attempted invasion of poland by the small remaining Horde around 1502-3 that was destroyed and effectively ended the rule of the Mongols over Western Russia.

And technically the U.S. didnt lose in Vietnam. Didn't win either. The U.S. packed up and left due to political pressure at home, and the South Vietnamese lost after the U.S. left.

MLK's role in the civil rights movement was extremely important to the success of the movement, so while there were many others of significance, he was the center of the movement. As for Columbus, his voyages were among the most important events in human history (Ericsson's had no lasting consequences) and are worthy of a holiday without lionizing the man for what he did in the New World and what consequences occurred.

I see everyone is avoiding a discussion regarding those Tennessee Teabaggers.
