The DVD, 'Spirit of the Marathon' is available for sale, I think this was also shown/released in a similar fashion. Hopefully, the DVD of H2C will have more footage, added features, they said there was 500 hours of tape.

I would have liked to hear more about AlSal's team, doing it in only 15-16 hours does not give any time for rest, recovery or repleneshment.

I liked the story of Ryan Bowe, the runner who died. Very sad, and from what the father said, it seems like his parents got divorced, possibly because of it. When the mother talked about how important running is to her, and how it is in the fabric of her being, my wife could understand what I feel like when I run or need to run.

The shrine that Kathy, the heart-attack survivor has to herself in her house was scary. Wow. I know some people might have a picture or two, but that was over the top.

The story-line of the company team with Rachel was probably the best, my non-running wife could relate to her.

The theater in LI, only had about 20 people. The upcoming snowstorm certainly scared off potential viewers. The drive home was pretty bad.

The roadkill part was what I enjoyed the most about the film...and how those dead jocks in box (presumably single?) formed power arches for runners streaming by, especially that girl who was "booking" it down the road.

Saw the movie last night and hated it. I wouldn't see this movie if you like movies about running and racing. It's a great race but they never showed the actual race. I did this race 5 times and our teams placed in the top 5 every time so there is a lot of fun stuff they could have showed that the teams that actually race go through. I enjoyed the human interest stories but I hate it when hollywood does that to running and pretends a race isn't a race. When I did it we raced all night so I never got to see the countryside so at least I did during the movie. The Dead Jocks team were kinda a-holes. Squirting people with water and hitting on girls along the way is not cool. I didn't stay past the credits to listen to the panel discussion because I'm not a Mary Slaney fan. Besides, she only did the race once to my knowledge and bitched and complained the entire time. Just because she's fast doesn't make her an expert or interesting. Alberto has organized teams for years and I would've liked to hear what he had to say but it wasn't worth it if I had to listen to Slaney and the jogger Bart Yasso.

I saw the movie last night. Except for the begining, I thought that it was great. Made me want to run it. I hope that there are some Dead Jocks In A Box out there. I am of the same age and mind frame as them. Did all 4 Dances with Dirt Races last year. The movie reminded me of the DnD relay in Hell, MI. It was cold and wet, but the finish area was packed, with whole teams finishing together. Usually with a beers.

There have been coments about what was being eaten. Some of the things that I have eaten during an ultra. Pulled pork BBQ, cheeseburgers, fresh cooked french fries, grilled cheese sandwiches (The best in the middle of the night.)

Eating while racing and eating while trying to finish an ultra jog are 2 different things.

Just FYI, Bart Yasso is old now and has Lyme disease, but from his younger days his marathon PR was 2:40:03, which isn't quite elite, but also isn't just a hobbyjogger time.

Saw the movie last night in LA (Century City Theater) and it was sold out. I loved it, and the audience seemed to really enjoy it. I thought it captured the zaniness and the oddly meaningful aspects of being "back on a team" for many of us who still miss the college or HS team days. The comments made my the Dead Jock about the parallel b/w male runner "speed vanity" and female beauty was right on the money.

I saw it last night. Not too many people in the stands, but the movie was great and really emotional. The Fathom event previews before the actual live-feed was ridiculous in our theater... but the movie more than made up for it.

Fast food is a must on the Hood to Coast. There's a McDonald's on the course right outside of Portland in St. Helens. Though the girls in the van may squeal, nothing tastes better at 2AM after 11 or 12 miles run than a couple of Big Macs.

Saw it in Gurnee, IL (about 1 hr north of Chicago). Theater was maybe 1/3 full, but honestly it was more than I expected. I manage a running shoe store and the production company wanted us to be the local sponsor to get word out, which basically consisted of putting up a poster and giving out a few free tickets. Like most prev. posters, thought it was very good, but would've liked more about the elites. Al Sal's interview was good.

I saw the movie and really enjoyed it. I have run HTC 8 times and found something in common with all four teams, especially Dead Jocks. My teams have had the goal to be top 6 in our division to ensure entry for the following year. During the race, we only have of a hint who is in our division based on previous year's results. No listing of entries by division is made available. During the race, we estimate where we are relative to our presumed competition due to all the staggered start times. I view HTC as a time trial and not a race. You run solo, don't get accurate splits or mileage marks, and half our team runs two legs in darkness. Like someone posted earlier, it was nice to see parts of the course in the movie that I have only seen in darkness. There really isn't much of anything competitive during the race other than bragging rights about beating your projected times.

But there is a lot more to the HTC experience that wasn't shown. The logistics of finding vans and a hotel when demand exceeds supply, getting twelve members to commit to a race financially ($110 entry fee per person) 11 months before race day (2011 race deadline was October 13, 2010 and only accepted entries postmarked on that date into a lottery), finding subs the last two weeks before the race or running under trained or with an injury, deciding on racing order of the team, packing gear into the vans, decorating the vans, shopping at Fred Meyer in Sandy, getting lost on leg 12 (or on any leg running or driving for that matter)at 2 AM through sketchy sections of Portland after all the course volunteers have gone home, the lack of sleep, the delirium in the hours before sunrise, hearing earsplitting volume of MOJO risin' at sunrise on a random back country road while being passed by the MOJO van, getting through the 2 mile backup at exchange 30 as a cool down for van one, partying in Seaside, and waking up the next day to drive to PDX and coming off the high of the previous two days while flying home and returning to reality.

H2C is really a race with a 1000 teams and 12000 stories. No other relay comes close to these numbers, tradition, and camraderie out on the course. Fortunately, someone put in the time and effort to capture a small part of the race and still captured the spirit of the race. A job very well done.

Saw the movie and liked it.

The most moving part was the family of the 30yr old guy whose wife was almost at full term of her pregnancy. Whew.

The non athletes were a hoot.

Heart and Sole seemed like many dedicated older runners I have seen. A little crazy but in a good way.

I realize they had limitations on what they could do in the span of one film.

I would love to see how the competitive teams prepare and endure this relay.

Did the Dead Jocks make the top 6?

Great summary of the details and logistics around the race. Some of these were only touched upon in the film; getting lost, the traffic jam, finding your hand-off partner, etc.While watching the film, I was wondering how far away some of these rented vans must have come from.And it doesn't seem the 2 vans of any given team interact at all except at the finish, is that true?
