Not to put a damper on things, but next year the NAIA will be starting the eligibility clearinghouse. In addition to looking at initial eligiblity with hs athletes, it will also affect international athletes, ESPECIALLY those that are not coming directly from hs (older athletes).
From what I understand it is likely going to be EXTREMELY DIFFICULT for a "talented" older athlete to be declared eligible for a couple of reasons. One - they will look at competitive experience and if deemed that they have competed for a club... at a level similar or better than the NAIA then for each year they will lose a year of eligiblility and two - even with this and they still want to come, they would have had to accumulated the necessary credits for the eligibility status that they end up being declared for. IE - determined that they have used two years of eligibility running for club X in germany, then they will need the credits required of a third year athlete.
Not that it isn't possible, but now some of that "self reporting" that really never took place will no longer exist and you will see a lot more coaches challenging the status of athletes (especially the international) and the schools will have to show the facts.
I would definitely look into mckendree college, they have a few studs on the team right now and have had a good record of developing mid-d guys.
