Wanjiru Arrested

so what will happen to Marathon World Record Assault he was gonna go for? All that is gonna be old news and no one will actually get close to breaking that world record. Wanjiru is the only person who can seriously challenge that record. I do not see any good Ethiopan there who has running passions like Wanjiru.

Guns are smuggled into Kenya from nearby Somalia, Sudan, and other areas of unrest, even Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Uganda. There's probably more hidden weapons now than several years ago after the bloodbath of tribal killings after the last presidential election.

Agreed. Tadesse is Eritrean, not Ethiopian, but I agree that he has just as much potential in the marathon as Wanjiru. Kebede is right there too. Also don't forget about a certain Kenenisa Bekele who may move up to the marathon someday.

Yeh, people get drunk and do stupid, stupid things they'll regret the rest of their lives. But it sounds like Wanjiru had already made a stupid decision if he already had the AK47.

Having an AK-47 is a necessity in a country like Kenya if you are famous and have money. Home invasions and such are very, very common.

The reason why Wanjiru's arrest is suspicious is because of what is charge says. I dont think Wanjiru is that crazy to come home, pick an AK 47 assault riffle and try to shoot his wife, the he hit his guard with the butt stock of the gun. There is information on the condition of the guard because I know that Gun stock is a deadly weapon and if you are hit on the face with it, you will probably get disfigured or loose your dental formula.

Kenya's legal system is so devoid of integrity that if even if Wanjiru were framed, the scenario of his innocence would be more dire than that of his guilt. If only he lived in America, where you can buy "justice."

I agree, he seems too nice for that. He was a good athlete and always seems very bright and happy, so he was probably framed.

Something similar happened to a guy named Orenthal James Simpson a few years back - supposedly he committed a double murder. But the guy was a great athlete, and anybody who has ever seen him in the Naked Gun movies knows he is a big goofball and there's no way he'd ever get angry and violent from what I could tell.

You'd think they would frame angrier athletes, since when they frame guys like this it is blatantly obvious they wouldn't do something like that.

Confirmed! Kenya's legal system is messed up. The innocent are sent to jail for life and the guilty are acquitted. I have seen this in person. I bet you the AK 47 riffle is either non existent or the police just planted it in his house. I dont think wanjiru has time to keep weapons at home. he has been all over the over kicking butts. his wife must have bribed the police to plant evidence in Wanjiru's house.

If the charges against him are true, it definitely sounds alcohol-related. There's no tradition in rural Kenya, where Wanjiru grew up, of social drinking. You either don't drink or you drink to get drunk. And some people's behavior changes when they're drunk, no matter how nice they are at other times.

It's not surprising he would have an automatic rifle. I heard so many stories in Kenya of bandits showing up at well-known runners' houses demanding money. A lot of rich-by-Kenyan-standards runners live in a gated community outside of Eldoret for some protection.

I'll be honest, my first thought was that it would be doping related, and I'm relieved that it isn't.

I also hope that Chicago 2010 isn't our last memory of Wanjiru racing, though that's one hell of a way to be remembered.
