Hmm...you might need to check the vag.
Can be caused by peripheral vascular disease.
If you were an oldie that may be an issue otherwise maybe a
blood disorder that mimics pvd.
Could be you need to backoff a little.
What kinds of shoes do you wear? Is it worse when you wear flats? Could be that your calves are just weak. Maybe you just use your calves a bit more when you run faster and that's why they're sore.
No, I've been training in lighter shoes for years now and run barefoot when I can.
My workout went pretty badly, and I stopped it because I was going so slow and my calves burned every time I tried to go faster.

I have this issue on occasion. At times it is enough to make me stop. I have found that it is a flexibility issue. Lay on you back and with a leg straight raise as high as you can and stretch you hamstrings. Then, with your leg still raised flex your foot so that your toes become close to your shins and stretch your calf. Do this several times a day. For me the key is stretching several times a day and not just before I run. Make sure you warm up well too.
you and your coach need to sit down and discuss these issues. Perhaps devise a particular specialist warm up and down. Also as mentioned extensive stretching programme and start ice baths 2-3 times a week after sessions at least.
Massage could help as well as compression tights after training.

If it's just sore calves from running fast, then take it easy for a few days. If it lasts more than a week then you might have some more serious muscle damage.
The thing is I haven't even been running all that fast! I can jog okay now, but if I try to go faster that's usually when they feel shot and as a result I haven't really done a serious workout the last 2-3 weeks (because I end up cutting it short, slowing down if it is a tempo etc.).
I'm going to try to take more ice baths...
I have had these issues. Sometimes the burning is so intense that I can't run slow enough. It doesn't make any sense at all. Again, I have found it is a flexibility issue. If I stretch my hamstrings and calves several (5-10) times throughout the day, have a thorough warm up, I am so much better off. If I don't stretch for a few days I may have a run where I will have the intense burn in my calves and shins again. It is extremely frustrating. Give stretching a try and see how it goes.
Thanks, I'm trying it out and am stretching a lot more thoroughly. Thing is usually in the past I have gotten away with only doing a little stretching, but I figure anything is worth a try here. I just don't know why I'm in such a slump and what is going on.
I will keep stretching, taking ice baths, etc. and have to hope something comes around.
So I have good news and bad news.
Good news: After my failed attempt of a workout a few days back, I ran easy, did the stretches etc. I did a mile close to all out today and my legs did not have that dead feeling or that burning feeling... FINALLY!
Bad news: My time on the mile was horrendous. I was close to 30 sec/mile off what my 3000 METER pace should be for my race in less than 2 weeks! Even if I give myself 10 sec for a race situation (and that's being generous) I am still WAY off of what I need to run damn.
this WAS my first hard effort in a while. My breathing recovered fairly rapidly and I did a long cool down after... hoping that this is just a "rust-buster"... but I need to be a lot faster... and soon! Any stories of people dropping lots of time after the rust buster?

Have you been doing some speedwork regularly? Maybe your doing too much slow stuff, you said you did a fast mile and felt ok, so try to balance more your hard/easy workloads.
I kinda feel the same when I don't run for 2 or more days and then when I resume training my calves also feel like sheet.
Also, try wearing compression socks, it might help ;)
ive been attempting to do workouts but have been stopping them or cutting them short... this is the first time in a while that i got "through one."
