I've been doing something similiar this winter. Since XC ended, I've been doing almost straight mileage, trying to raise it for a good base. I'm probably in the best aerobic shape now as well because I'm doing my long runs (about 10 or more miles) at around 7:00 pace, which is faster than even my easier pace runs this past summer or during season...I'm careful about increasing it too much...listen to your body. I'm starting to add in more aerobic workouts a week, maybe extended tempos before the 'hard' ones start in Jan/Feb
