The dire situation faced by most of Africa today is directly attributed to the legacy of European imperialism. Africa would be a noticeably different continent today if European nations hadn't grouped previously warring tribes together in as whole nations, plundered natural resources and established a tradition of corruption.

Well, none of it is established as rock solid fact but it is a little more than speculation. I personally find the evidence pretty compelling.
