Just for fun after a quick look through the list. Sure I missed quite a few..

Jus Running of Asheville, NC looks to have a strong team on the women's side

The Mammoth Track Club is a club - would anybody be pissed if members of their club showed up? I mean, it is a club full of professional athletes - what's the difference? Or how about the Oregon Track Club? Rupp runs for a club team, so does Solinsky (and many many other "professionals")

Further, I quickly counted seven unattached runners in the entry list. I wish they were members of clubs. Maybe they are between clubs, but it would be a bad thing if more and more unattached runners raced in the CLUB championships.

It would be a very bad thing if Unattached would have gotten a winning "team" score.

I would ban unattached runners who have no amazing reason to be unattached.

On the other hand I welcome clubs people might call professional like Hansons and McMillin. Maybe in a future if there were far more professional running clubs there could be a professional division, but there are too few so should be welcomed to the club championships.

Unattached runners, runners not on a complete team, ineligible/extra athletes, etc don't affect the team scores, so who cares if they run? There is no individual prize money, so they're not hurting anyone or taking anything away from anyone, yet the entry fees they pay helps keep the meet viable.

I agree with you on these points Tom. If you are a mediocre unattached athlete however, should you run here or run a race in Feb. where you're going to get smoked and not even be in the mix?

The idea is to build the club system so if pros are members of clubs, fine, that will help the club system.

If pros subvert the spirit of a club championship by forming a fake or pick up clubs for the purpose of the meet, then the games committee should be disqualify them.

Lots of mediocre unattached runners are not lucky enough to live in an association where they can either find a club to help them pay for the trip, or find 4 other people who live in their association in the right age range that are willing to pay to make the trip.

I would also guess that many of the unattached runners at either Championships live relatively close to the meet.

They do enforce the residency rules fairly strictly... I mean at least best they are able. If people lie to USATF about where they live, it can be hard for the games committee to pick up on this.

All clubs have to start somewhere. It is fairly common for clubs near the meet to form that year and then disband. But you guys are complaining about a club forming across the country? If they are putting up the money this year to travel to the meet, that's not exactly a huge sign that they plan to disband after. The prize money should be at least as big next year as well.

I have no idea what that particular club's long-term plans are, but the more clubs the better as far as I am concerned, as long as they are following the rules.

Now if only we could get more of these clubs to participate in our track champs in the summer... I hear Icahn Stadium is pretty sweet...

Yes, I'll be running in the 60+ division if I don't do anything stupid between now and then.

It's a good thing for a coach to run all-out prior to watching his athletes race—provides a necessary mellowing.

I'll be rooting for Stotan as well.

As for the Smoke...after losing Heffron and Pierce not much left there besides Haaker (1:06 1/2, 4:10 mile last year) if he goes to compete. Would love to see Moore rejoin them from N.C., but not betting it happens.

Tom Derderian "mellow" while watching his open teams race?? Maybe the masters race will help a bit, but I still saw him at full go last year in Lexington while the open teams were racing......Best of luck Tom! We need more people in the sport like that who support club teams! How is the PUMA stuff working out?
