Danielson, the 3rd HS guy to break 4 never broke 4 again after HS. I think he became a doctor though, so nbd.

You were not paying much attention then - Sharpe had a long and pretty successful career as a runner primarily in the 400I but also ran well in the 800. He may not have won a national champ. but consistently qualified for NC's and USA's. Remember the fishbowl gets a whole lot larger when you leave HS.

One guy who I can think of from Iowa would be Jon Thomas. He ran around 9:04 for two miles in HS, went to Oregon and had a pretty decent freshman year (one of the scorers at PAC-10s). Then, Vin Lanana came in and his career just went in the tank. I don't think he was even in the top 15 on the team after his freshman year.

Dan McManamon - 1:49/4:10 full mile in HS, ran 2 races at Duke and couldn't break 2:00 and fell off the face of the Earth

Megan had a decent career at NC, actually. Not as good as the hype, but pretty solid. She improved in all events time-wise. Solid DMR carries (one in AR time).

He is at Embry Riddle in Daytona, FL. Been top 2 on the team the past couple seasons in xc and has run some good track times.

Interesting definition of "never did a thing."

Grosso ran in the 13s for 5k

Dameworth competed in a couple national meets and was runner up aa Big 10 champs.

Granville 1:47 800

Alsen won a District Championship in xc

DiJoseph ran low 4s

Vandergrift had a great career albeit short. Several sub 3:40s

The vast majority of us would love to have had any of the careers of these guys. While not knowing anything about Smith, every other guy mentioned ran better in college than in high school.
