I know this is purely a troll OP, but the reality is that Oklahoma is still the real deal, whether OK State is better or not. It was not that long ago that this board was ripping on Martin Smith and how crapy the Sooners were. Where are those haters now? Really?
Coach Smith should be Coach of the Year. Coach Martin Smith that is! Amazing job with that program - not just with Track, not just the Field Events, not just Cross or the Distance Events. Great total program!
So every good team through the history of NCAA jogs the the Region meet just to qualify to race well for one meet the whole season after running 100 mi weeks July through Nov. Obvious the important meet of the season, so where is the conditioning/strength come into factor. It is a wonder why other people don;t understand our sport.
OU is full of 10K runners. I believe they wanted to make a statement at Regionals and and will bounce back just fine for Nationals. They ran very smart at Nationals last year, with even splits and moving through the field. Martin Smith will have them ready to run another smart race.

Hate to break it to you but every team will follow the strategy that they think will get them to Nats (if they are a borderline case) or peak at Nats (if they are a contender).
Arguments about how they should approach it and pleas about the good of the sport are simply irrelevant.

OSU got three out of the top four at the Regional, without Girma. At NCAAs, as Dave Smith has said, the key for them is going to be who, if anyone, comes through strongly as a fifth man.
This is a useful post. Which of the guys lost a shoe? I talked with a coach who said that OSU was just running to qualify and that you could not read much of anything into a less-than-stellar appearing performance.

I think 6th was the best he did while at Oregon, but they did trophy in track I believe. So depending how you look at it - maybe.
