Ryan Hall did not DUMP MTC

Ryan Hall talks too much. He blogs too much. He tweets too much. He facebooks too much and he interviews too much and he says he is going to win every race too much. He has traded humility and grace for fame, money and EGO.

Regardless of who left who, I just wish Mahon tried harder to get through to him

My sense is that his religious views, which I largely agree with, are getting out of control, and this is really the reason why he left.

Without going into detail, the 'real story' is that the Halls need to mature a bit. Especially Sara.

She tried to join the Mammoth Group and Mahon apparently said no thanks. Preserving the sanctity of the core of his group is his ultimate concern.

This is ridiculous. Don't post inflammatory stuff like this thread and then refuse to go into detail about your 'insider'(aka bullsh!t) knowledge. That is just dumb

Pretty much. "Without going into detail" is another way of saying "This is all made up."

Yeah seriously bro if you have something say spit it out. The whole of the distance world would like to know what happened if you were there tell us don't just post weird hints that don't really fit with what we all know was public truth.

If this is the reason, shame on MTC. They just lowered themselves the equivalency of an episode of Jersey Shore. Clearly there are ego problems on both sides. Grow up, Van Halen!

There was no attempt for us to misrepesent anything. Ryan Hall in his own blog post makes the decision sound like it was his, "I prayerfully decided that it was time for me to make a change in my running career and withdrawal [sic] from the Mammoth Track Club". Before Ryan's blog post we got an email wondering if our headline was premature and the emailer proposed that Mahon could have dumped Ryan.

Here's part of what I wrote him back, "The main reason prior to Ryan's post that I didn't think Terrence told Ryan it was in his best to go in a different direction is because Terrence is a professional running coach and he needs professional runners to have a career. Ryan is his big Kahuna. Deena Kastor's career has been on the decline and without Ryan the Mammoth Track Club is a much less appealing entity. Terrence needs Ryan for his own sake as a coach. Without Ryan it will be much harder for him to continue as a professional running coach. Professional coaches are dependent on professional runners. Considering there are very few top notch runners out there I just don't see Terrence telling Ryan, "Hey it's time to

move on.""

Having said that if you know something we don't we'd love to set the record straight. Sometimes when there is smoke on the boards there is fire but considering Ryan's own post says the decision was his I don't think Mahon asked him to leave.

Perhaps Mahon said, "Ryan to be good, you have to do x, y, and z , no questions asked." Then Ryan thought about it and decided to leave. That is a possibility but it's not Mahon asking Ryan to leave. If Ryan was being asked to leave then his camp is misrepresenting things for sure.

I guess we just have to wait to see if MTC responds.

I agree lets see what Mahon has to say; it is a bit odd that he did not comment and would not until the Halls did their thing.

I think there is more to the story than Hall is letting on, you just don't leave a coach who you have had so much of your success with to begin with. Maybe he was overdoing/imposing his religious views onto team members who just didn't want to hear it-and possibly caused some friction along the way.

There are great self coached runners all through running history; Carlos Lopes, Emil Zatopek, Alain Mimmon, Miruts Yifter just to name a few. And he does have alot of resources he can pull from; but most of these guys had been doing it for quite some time-He can always find a coach after he tries this out, i wouldn't be too hard on him-except for the fact 2012 is around the corner and he may not have enough time if things go wrong.

The guy who initially wrote me responded to my email. His comments are worth mentioning:

I have stopped going to the message forum because it seems like it is over run by HS kids just talking about "silly" stuff, but this topic moved me so much that I just felt like I needed to voice my opinion. I never expected a response. It was uplifting to actually know that you care enough (not that I didn't know that already because I have been going to your sight since it began) about our sport (and your readers) to respond to an ordinary follower.

But in reading your email, you mentioned that reading Ryan's blog "proved" that Ryan left Terrence and that Terrence "needed" him, but if that was the case, wouldn't you think Terrence would respond on the matter? His reaction to the "news" just doesn't seem like that of a person that was "dumped". I would think that if it wasn't at least a mutual decision, and Ryan actually chose to leave on his own, Terrence wouldn't mind commenting on the situation. By choosing not to comment almost brings to light that he is waiting for Ryan to get everything out on his own, and when the smoke clears, and the hysteria calms down, he will make peace with the situation (I tried to think of another word there but realized I use bad English...LOL).

Again, I want to express the gratitude for you responding, and also want to pass along that I was not the one that started the thread about Terrence being "dumped" by Ryan. That is just coincidence. "

Mahon is smart. I am sure he is refusing to comment now because it is only going to make both sides look unfavorable no matter what he says. There are four versions to every story. Here there is Ryan's version. Then Mahon's. Then public OPINION (i.e LetsRun) and then there is the actual TRUTH. I agree with the original poster that 'Hall DUMPING MTC' was a headline trying to grab attention and stir the pot. The brilliance of any Boss is to get their employee to leave on their own and have them believe it was their idea
