he didn't train alone all the time in mammoth. i can recall a flotrack workout with him and alistarr craig doing 400s. they may have done tempos together who knows but i know i saw them together on this occasion which i know isn't saying much but that he doesn't train alone 100% of the time. ritz has the potential to beat his marathon pb now. and in the future i could see rupp or solinsky or maybe even lagat take down his pb also.

Why is Josh Cox a pro runner? WTF has he done since the Olympic Trials other than that AR at some bogus distance? When's the last marathon he's run? I'm just curious. How does a random guy like that keep a contract. Like why isn't he running New York?
Josh is an elite athlete with a contract because he ran 2:13 less than a year ago. Check the ranking and see where that places him on the U.S. list. He also holds an American record, set less than a year ago - "bogus" distance or not, it is what it is. Ultras have popularity they didn't have years ago.
Josh is also highly likely going to get 5 (or more) Olympic Trials qualifiers (a men's record) - a title I wanted before my achilles claimed me.
So in summary:
Quality runner - Ranked, record holder.
Longevity - Been in the game at a high level a long time.
Lastly...hey Josh! Got your back on this one and you know I've always envied your success (and attention!).
To tie this into Hall. Hall: Get back to the track then, return to the marathon. That's the only fix you'll need, no matter where you go, this is what ails you. Strength and speed are related and feed each other. A sub-13:00 will give you 2:05 (You so can run the fast if you focus on it).
Also, groups work. As much for your mind than your body. You just need faster training partners training for the same races.
Just because Hall doesn't want a training group, doesn't mean he wouldn't want to work with OTC. He could still benefit with the change of location and coach.
Just because he goes to OTC would't mean he'd lose control of training, ie whether he ran with Ritz or alone for workouts. The draw is nike resources and salazar.
But we will not see Hall at OTC because of sponsors, not because he wants to train alone. He can still run workouts on his own if hes working under salazar.
not to take this away from him, but Josh's 50k record is a road 50k. he tacked on some miles before or after the rock-n-roll arizona marathon. so comparing a 50k road run to a true 50k trail ultra, is comparing apples to oranges.

And no matter what course records are tossed around as "world records", no trail records are listed by USATF or IAU for that matter. So you might consider a 50k trail ultra as "true" but only a 50k road or track record would be a "true" record.
This is exactly hall's problem. He needs to get out of this "top dog syndrome," suck it up, and train with other people.
Listen guys, Ryan cares what he cares about because he has that ability as a human being, just like you and me. He did not start running that day at age 15 to be number one in the world. He ran around the lake because he was drawn to it, it felt good, and he could do it with his dad. Remember what that felt like when you were a kid? I do. I loved to run through the woods, zipping through trees and hopping over logs and streams. I still love it. He had a big, beautiful lake in the mountains. Is passion involved? It is ALL about passion! Just take a run on Skyline Drive in Eugene and you will meet passion. I can tell you when you will see the best out of Ryan, or you, or me - when our passions meet our destinies. When the Halls' passion for their faith, their ministry and their sport meet their destiny as couple, THEN you will see something very special indeed. It will be well worth the wait.
People do not pay attention. Anyone that thinks that Ryan would be best served by moving to OTC or any other training group is ignorant. Ryan trained alone in Mammoth. He never trained with Meb or Dan Browne or anyone else because he didn't want anyone else governing his effort. RYAN doesn't want a training partner. Whether or not this is in his best interest is irrelevant. He wants to train alone.RH is his own man who wants to be near his folks and siblings in Big Bear. He can train from time to time with different methods and techniques in Southern Cali. World class 2 lappers are with J Cruz and J Gray. High Alt at Mammoth, Big Bear, Flagstaff. Milers at Cal St SM with Steve Scott. Ultra runners at Ridgecrest, Tecopa, Pahrump. Sprinters and hurdlers are at HSI, WCE, USC, UCLA, WLACC, Chula Vista. Decathletes at APU, PV at Mt Sac & UCLA. There's a big open world of cross training ops only a few hours away when you live in L.A.
