High Mileage and Sex

Running high mileage isn't what seperates the men from the boys. It's running hard, drinking hard, and screwing women (or a woman) hard- and often. I knew guys running 100-140 MPW who would drink after work at happy hour, then hit up the roads for another 10 to 15. Then they'd go home and be with a woman. I used to think I could hang, and for a while I did.

Sadly, once I turned 30 it was like a switch turned off. I run harder but slower. Drinking a few beers more than twice a week makes me feel bad inside. I'm lucky to do it with my woman more than once a week, at times I even avoid it.

I don't know where I'm going with this, but I'm crying.

And you consider this a negative experience??

I agree with this too as I have experienced it that last 2 months. I think most of it is being overly tired (from over training), which leads to sex apathy, crankiness, etc. Plus the focus of each day is training for a race some time in the future...it doesn't leave much energy for much else. Be careful not to ruin relationships. After your race, take some good time off to recovery. Your next training cycle will come back to your current levels easier and with less symptoms of over training.

I've experienced the exact same thing doing 80mpw at high altitude.

Maybe it means your over training a bit, but I think doing that much work you should be tired more often.

Just keep an eye on it. A recovery week once a month or so couldn't hurt.

How is this guy not called out, and how was the only comment about this post positive???

First of all, at what point does running feel 100x better than good sex? To be honest, I don't think my body could handle anything that felt 100x better than sex. I just recently had sex that was about 1.5x better than the greatest sex I had experience and I couldn't walk for an hour. I can't image 3x, let alone 100x!

You are obviously a person that is so invested in his own running that you are not capable of having a quality sexual experience with another women. I'm sure you just go until you get off, which is probably roughly 90 seconds, and then are done with it. You have given up on picking up women or putting effort into it because you don't think "they get you" when in fact there is nothing to get. You are a running-obsessed, selfish, clueless individual.

On a side note I do notice that my sex drive goes down when I am training hard, but it will usually rebound. If it doesn't rebound and I become grumpy or short tempered I usually equate it with overtraining. Good luck and don't give up on getting laid, ever.

I'm 24 years old now. Been running 120-140 miles a week for fun, I haven't raced in almost 2 years. Last race was a 14:38 5k though if you must know. I have a salaried job where I sit at a desk for 40 hours a week and make about 60k a year. I live in the middle of a crappy neighborhood with 3 of my best friends, and we've been living there for 2 years now, paying next to nothing for rent. We constantly have kegs on ice as well as go downtown or to the bars every night. I drink 10-20 beers a night, and more on weekends. At the end of the summer we all counted how many girls we took down over the summer and my number was at 24. If I had to guess how many girls I've slept with since college started, I would say over 200, easily. I run twice a day, get drunk every night, and have slept with more girls than almost anyone I know. That's what makes you a man. If you're living any other lifestyle than this, you need to rethink what you're doing.

You and I would get along well. You are truly living the high life. Keep up the good work. Live hard and good because it won't last forever. My only suggestion would be to race now and then, sometimes it makes the beer taste even better. I envy you.

You are wrong. I believe this gentlemen. I've seen it happen. Well, not that many girls, but it's very possible. It's part of living hard. Until you do it I'm not sure you can understand. I believe.

Everyone knows you couldnt break 17 in a 5k right now cuz yur dirty and washed up. dirty cuz you definitely have AIDS with the statistics you gave and washed up because you dont even race anymore. get over yourself chief. :)

I run high mileage for fun. I guess you can say I have an addictive personality. None of what I wrote was a lie and the thing is the friends I live with do all of this as well, except they don't run quite as many miles. Like the old school guy said, it is the way to live. I'm having fun and have no regrets so far.

I know a guy like you, my old college roommate. Was decently quick (14:20's in college, ran around 100 a week). Graduated. Never really raced, but kept with the "high mileage." Always would hear stories from him about the girls he was sleeping with, the being out til 4 AM hooking up with multiple chicks in the same night and drinking, and then running an easy 15 in the morning.

Then he visited me. Had a beer guy. Went on a run at what he said was his easy pace (6:30's). Turned out his high mileage was actually him assuming his now 8:30-9:00's were still 6:30's. Showed me a couple of the chicks on facebook that he hooked up with. His 8-9's on a 1-10 scale were more like 3-4's.

So my guess is you are run a lot still, but are slow, still think you are hot shit, and your women you are hooking up with are probably 5's at best. Congrats.

I never said I ran fast when I run. I usually run about 7:30 pace on morning runs. I don't stay out late either, except on weekends. I usually get 6 hours of sleep a night. I definitely don't have a beer gut either, it helps that I cycle to work though. In terms of the girls I've hooked up with---well sometimes you flush and sometimes you bust right? I don't brag about the looks of the girls I get with. I have had very attractive girls and I have had very unattractive girls. At the risk of sounding arrogant---a lot of you seem pretty jealous. I say, do what makes you happy. Living with my friends, drinking/partying every night, running a lot of miles, sleeping with random girls, and having a joke job that pays decently makes me very happy. I'm sure a lot of people are happy living sober lives and dedicating more of themselves to training/racing rather than to socializing. We all have different personalities.

I'm just questioning you. You say 120-140 miles a week, which is a ton. And work full time. And drink 10-20 beers a night. And be fit. And you don't really stay up late.

You run 120-140 miles a week, cycle to and from work, drink 70-140 beers a week (if its more on weekends, probably 75-150?), hook up with 2 (assuming you meant different) girls a week on average during the summer, something just doesn't add up. I believe you can run, party some, drink some, and hook up some, but the numbers you threw out there have to be inflated. Get real. I mean, I run about 90 miles a week, work full time, and drink on occasion, stay out late on weekends, and personally am pretty stretched. I honestly don't think the numbers you gave us are anywhere reasonable.

It's really simple actually, how I do what I do. On an average weekday, I wake up at 6:30 and run 10 miles which takes ~75 minutes. I do a little core work, make something small for breakfast and cycle to work which takes about 20-30 minutes depending. I get to work around 8:30 at the latest and take a shower at the gym that is in the office building and put on my work attire. I work 9-5 like every other drone in our society. Get home about 5:30, eat something and am usually running by 6:15. Another 10 miles in ~75 minutes and I'm usually back by 7:30ish. A little core and a shower and I'm ready to go. We start most nights with a power hour or some other casual driking and that covers about 6-8 of my beers and gets me in the drinking/drunk mode. We go to the bar and stay for a couple of hours. Usually get home around midnight and I'll make a drunk snack then go to sleep which is usually no later than 12:30 which gets me 6 hours. I have been doing 10 in the morning and 10 at night like clockwork for years. Sundays I go for 20-25, saturdays I usually only go for 1 10-15miler.

Thursday nights are the only weeknights that tend to go late because we sometimes go downtown to a club, but even when we go to the bars, the girls are still out more. We will stay til last call frequently and once in a while I'll take a girl home. Last night I wasn't so lucky. I had a girl lined up but she had a midterm at 9am so she didn't want to come back to my place, I did get her number though. This is all enjoyable to me.

It helps that my job is very easy. I'm in marketing and basically work with numbers all day. But I've always been good at math so the job is not strenuous/stressful at all. I have plenty of time to go on letsrun and such. I also drank 2 beers with lunch today. Trust me, the lifestyle is pretty easy to attain once you become seasoned. It's not like I woke up one morning and decided to start doing this. The mileage buildup, the drinking buildup, and the confidence buildup to get girls all developed over my college years, and are peaking now.
