Chris won his first and only 10000m this year running sub 27, Geb hasn't run sub 27 in 2 years and is pretty old. This thread has merit.
My take, Solinsky would probably lose to Geb in a very close 10000 and would beat him by 5+ in a 5000.
We are entitled to opinions, and my is also partly based on how he has continued to transition his training over the two-plus years since the OGs. The shorter the race, the harder it would be fore Geb now. For instance, he will not run anywhere close to a 3:31i 1500 or a 7:23 3000. I think that it has now been so long since he altered his running style and training that he cannot go back to that level of speed.But, if anyone can do it it would be Geb, as he is multiply gifted -- and smart.By the way, the more informed opinions I see like yours (wellnow), the more I may adjust my previously listed position.

Well thanks for the compliment. Yes he doesn't have the same kick, but I don't think he could run a half Marathon @ 4.30 mile pace without also having the ability to run under 3.50 for one mile on the track.
Remember that video of him doing 4-minute pace on the treadmill from last year? That looked like no problem for him. Everybody was all excited about how Ritz was going to "take on" Geb in the half, but we all know what happened there. Gebrselassie is still the king.

What planet are you living on? This is Haile Gebreselassie we are talking about. He just cruised to a 59.33 half marathon, beating Ritz by three minutes.
Consider Geb vs. Mottram, Crystal Palace 2004
12:55.51 to 12:55.76, with Geb visibly straining to overtake Buster in the final 80m.
Geb ran 26:41 that year (although only 27:27 in the OG).
After a nice tune-up at Newcastle-South Shields, the Emperor is putting the final touches on his rampup to NYC. No chance he's in sub 27 form, but I'd give him a 27:20.
Sol has the edge at 5k, Geb a chance at 10k.

Geb had given Mottram a slight lead over the final 400m. And MOttram is a 3:46 miler. Anyone would have been straining to CATCH UP and PASS a 3:46 miler on the final 400m.
even in a 5k, I simply cannot picture big chris crossing the line before haile. Assuming both are going 100%. It would take quite a run from big chris. Haile has more strength and I'm sure he still has more kick.

Haile himself after returning to the track from the marathon and injury said that marathon running does not make people (or him) slower. He broke the world 10km and 2 mile indoor record following his return. So i doubt him being at peak marathon form would have much impact on his ability to go sub 27:00.
He's gone sub 27 on the track in basically every chance he's taken that was for time, and only two years ago when he wasn't even in peak form. Peak marathon form for a MARATHON runner is the best time to race a 10k. That's when he is most sharp and speed oriented. So not sure what your point is pointing out that he's basically ready to peak for the thon...there's no better time.
