The 2 year ban needs to be increased to 6 years. Then, if the athlete caught turns state evidence in order to identify which doctors/coaches/agents were involved in the procuring of and supervising of use, consider reducing the ban to 3 years or so and prosecuting the others through the courts.

Obviously the likes of Gatlin etc was caught post college.

There have been high school athletes come up positive at the US Juniors and have gone on to compete successfully in college (i.e. Bobby Smith).
There have been college athletes that have been tested positive in international competition but still competed in NCAA comps (i.e. Carl Meyerscough, Milan Jotonovic).
USADA/WADA and the NCAA have no reciprocity with their anti-doping programmes.
Given her natural skin tone (as seen in photo) and her hair color....I'd say skin cancer should be her biggest worry.

Look below the article. Her mom attacks the reporter. As I read it, I thought he was pretty fair. Rachael did deny the reporter any comments. Is that Max guy her agent or something?

Max is just another local runner that was part of her team.
I had heard she was done with running competitively after she graduated from Iowa, that it had taken a severe physical toll on her over the years. It sounds as if she wasn't quite done racing and found something illegal to give her an edge. Her former occupation as a pharmaceutical rep and a father who is a doctor is kind of suspect.
Guess we wait for the B sample and see but I'm assuming the worst in this situation.
And, yes, I don't blame a mother for defending her daughter but this mom sounds like a real headcase.
What goes through people's minds when they dope? "I won't get caught...not me" or "I'm not doing anything wrong...it's not as if it's hurting anyone." Sad.

I would say living in Puerto Rico is a much better indicator of doping than even the combination of her dad being a doctor and her former job as a drug rep.
PR has very different laws regarding what we consider prescription drugs and many drugs that are illegal and banned performance enhancers here can be purchased legally by anyone in PR.
This is a shock and with the number of other athletes testing positive for PR I don't think her school or coach had anything to do with it if in fact sample "B" test positive as well. I can speak from experience when I said that the University of Iowa and the Big Ten collect samples from their athletes often. I don't know how often they test those, they have 15-20 of my samples.
I want to believe this is a mistake but hope Rachel handles this situation with high character and honesty. She has a strong following of supporters that believe in her.

The NCAA doesn't test for EPO, too expensive. So it doesn't matter how many times she got tested at Iowa.
As an aside, I think the physician father and her positive test will make his hospital look into this a little bit.
It's surprising how easy it would be to obtain EPO in a hospital (or any dialysis center) setting. It is given routinely to dialysis patients and cancer patients, and is so common that the syringes can be found sitting on counters after the nurse obtains it from pharmacy or from the automated storage unit on the floor. I stopped by our dialysis unit the other day because there was a code blue, and if the guy survived he was coming to the ICU where I was attending (he didn't), so I thought I'd go see how things were going. As I was watching the commotion from the work area, I noticed 3 or 4 syringes with 30,000-50,000 units of EPO each, sitting on the counter. Maybe they are usually more watched over, and were only unattended because of the emergency, but if anyone wanted to they could have easily swept it up and taken it for personal use. And no, I didn't take it, and I have my recent 10k results (40 seconds slower than last year) to back me up.
