was a division 2 cross country and track all american.
2 x ncaa wrestling champion at east stroudsburg.
my picks may not be the best athletes ever, but i wanted to mention 2 distance runners who accomplished big things.
as running was espana and cuvo's 2nd sport, their running,accomplishments are impressive.

Usain Bolt was an accomplished cricket player, who also is efficient as soccer.
Andrew Wheating could have gone semi-pro in soccer. He also looks like the kind of guy that would be a great cornerback in football.

I considered this when I compiled my list. I just don't know enough about his cricket-playing days to comment. 9.58 and 19.19 are easily enough to make Bolt one of the best athletes of all time - up there with Armstrong, Phelps, Pele, Bekele, Gebrselassie, Guerrouj, Woods, Howe, Gretzky, Ali, etc. It would be interesting to see Wheating on the football field. He has the speed, but not sure he would be quick/agile enough. He's a bit tall at that position (6'5"). His athleticism might translate better at WR or safety. Who knows, though? It's all postulation.
I notice John Elway. Do you consider him the best Quarterback of all time?

you are right though boxers and soccer players are among the greatest athletes, example pernell whitaker at 5 feet 5 inches could not only dunk a basketball, but could do showboating dunks.

Good to see your list... oh wait. I love how many "tough guys" there seem to be OVER THE INTERNET. That planet of a "talent pool" of 6 billion must be pretty interesting... I'm actually a fan of boxing, but I fail to see its multi-sport athletes who compare to the ones I listed. Let's see your list, know-it-all.

I don't see your point. No other nation is so focused on athletics as is the US. It's rational that a list such as this would contain predominantly American athletes. Why do you think so many foreign athletes come to the States to compete? Males are better athletes than females... period. Is this still in debate? Which soccer players and boxers do you have in mind who would be considered better all-around athletes than Deion, Thorpe, and Bo?
