There has never been a track athlete set for life, never has never will. Punt holders in the NFL make more than Usain Bolt. How can any track athlete be set for life?
Eveybody knows that track athletes has been the wackest sport and I ran track. Only since Usain came around with real personality that it's gotten attention. Not even MJ or those other stone face jerks got any air play, and they still have to work for the rest of their lives. Barely any of them give back and the new ones go to really nice schools but can't articulate in an interview. Well "Punt holder" isn't a position unless you mean punter. And yeah even then I'm certain Bolt makes more than a punter in the NFL. Though not likely a place kick holder since they are often the quarterback.
didn't Dix win his 200 medal after 2-3 guys were DQ'd? I thought I saw a video of him giving his medal to I think Spearman who should have gotten the medal but stepped on the outside of the lane. I remember thinking this was a major class act, acknowleding that he got beat fair and square.

#1 - He loses 40% of his salary to taxes
#2 - If he doesn't he will be audited and arrested
#3 - He already skipped a meet this season for "financial reasons"
#4 - Given the rule of large numbers (statistics) based on his demographic and career choice (similar to professional football players, bb players, rock stars) he is highly likely to either already have more debt than assets or will before or shortly after he retires.
The easy come easy go, instant gratification, it'll keep on coming mentality does not create wealth. It takes someone who could get by living poor just fine and puts them in debt.
My bet is Dix signed his contract and immediately went out on bought the most expensive car a bank would lend him money for and didn't give half a thought to insurance, gas and maintenence/repair costs. So soon people forget that this was a kid that could have been making 6 didgets after his JR year in college but choose to stay in school and compete for his team and complete his degree because both of his parents are educators. Who's to say he isn't capable of making smart decisions with his money?
If it was indeed his choice to skip this meet rather than the meet promoters then he obviously has his head geared towards the future and is willing to make conservative decisions to maximize what that future may hold. Why couldn't he do the same with his money?

Dix didn't do that because he's a class act and cares about more than money. He stayed in college and finished his degree, because that's the kind of role model kids need. He didn't race because he wasn't going to be able to give his best, and that's the kind of man he is.

You made it race based, I made it industry based, same as insurance companies do. That and the fact that he skipped a major diamond meet already this year (how much money that time?) due to "financial reason".
I work in probabilities. He may be doing great, but I don't know why he'd quote financial reasons as a reason to miss a meet that makes you money earlier this season if his finances are in order.
Lastly, how many wealthy educators do you know? Do you actually know their finances or simply their facade?
