Generally speaking you go into a marathon with SOME idea as to how fast you're going to go for 26.2 miles. I'm sure you've seen Ryan Hall and other elite marathoners checking their splits EVERY mile to maintain "Goal pace." The OP can clearly use the prediction run to give himself an IDEA of what pace he should run judging how hard those 10 miles will feel.
