What's wrong with a burger and a beer after a race? Also If I'm paying for a race I might as well have a shirt I can wear on a training run AND it's much better if the race bothers to have decent food post-race.

In short.. I think you're stretching on few things in that list. Also unless someone is paying you to go run.. guess what bud? you're nothing but a hobbyjogger too.

If you use something you heard about or saw an elite doing to justify your own habits. Like with armwarmers and compression gear, as mentioned already.

I guess that makes guys like 2:14 marathoner Nate Jenkins and olympian Ian Dobson hobbyjoggers, as well as numerous 2:30 guys on here who participate in the weekly marathon training thread.

This week I think I wore 4 different pairs of shoes. Trail shoes for a muddy fell run, regular trainers for most of my road mileage, and flats for a workout on the track. That somehow makes me a hobby jogger?

Aren't these two things opposite?

Are you a hobby jogger for worrying about nutrition, or are you a hobby jogger for not worrying about nutrition. Make up your mind.

Sorry, having a burger and a beer after a race is anything but being a hobbyjogger. The protein is just what you need, and if your a man, the beer is just as important.

The hobbyjoggers out there, have a special post race drink and some other well thought out meal, the real runners eat what's available.

And the multiple shoe thing is also no big deal, when I was getting free shoes I wore different shoes all the time, because I could, also because some shoes felt better on fast runs and some felt better on road runs etc., but mostly because they were free.

Are you guys all idiots? How does having a beer and a burger POST race make you a hobby jogger? I am in no way using Wanjiru as justification for doing it, just pointing out that elite guys do it as well who do not qualify as hobby joggers. Whereas with compression socks and armwarmers he specifically said that when you copy an elite that is when you become a hobby jogger here he did not do that, he just suggested that eating a burger and having a beer post race somehow makes you a hobby jogger.

One other thing, back in the day, before all the fundraisers, when races were races. Back when I ran the local stuff for a good workout and some easy prizes/cash, I would pick the races that had free beer, nothing better than free beer after a good run.

You run 10 minute miles and you're not an ultrarunner.

Sorry, it's really a hobbyjogger deal. The best runners, as a rule, take in higher quality food. I should've added pizza to that one, to be honest.

How is this hobbyjogger-like? Many elites rotate shoes.

You know you're a hobby jogger if running does not supply the majority of your income (or scholarship).

Face it guys, we're all hobby joggers unless we're getting paid to do this. Some of us are fast and some are slow, but this is our hobby. We do it for fun.
