#2027 and #3253 are wheelchair participants, so arciniaga was 3rd against a very good field.

Except he's 2 minutes faster now. He is clearly a much better runner than he was last year, you pay any attention to the US 25K champs? Great job Nick, you have a bright future!

Oh and Arciniaga will have a tough time ever duplicating his past marathon performance under McMillan. He may run a 2:12 somewhere else, but that is not as good as a 2:13 top 10 finish in NY.
Why so defensive? I never said that Nick was not a better runner today than he was a year ago. I simply said that his marathon this morning was no better than his marathon in NY last November. I was agreeing with the OP who felt like the course this morning was 2 minutes faster than NY. I think he is a rising star and I sent him an email last year after NY to say just that. Today was another solid effort.
Not being defensive, simply pointing out that Nick is clearly not the same runner as he was last year in NY.
I agree with you. However, he did not prove that today.

It was warm but the cloud cover stayed through most of the race. The first half isn't flat at all, I'm shocked they ran a 63 and change for the first half. The second half is almost pancake flat. San Diego Rock n Roll historically tends to have a winning time in the 2:08-2:09 range, so that's about right.

No biggie, but i was really close!
The first 10 km drops about 300 feet, hence the sub-30 split. The next mile is slightly downhill, hence the fast Moroccan mile, then there's a big old uphill followed by another big downhill.
