What is the deal with bad Olympic mascots? Atlanta and Athens were horrible, Beijing and Sydney were just pointless, but these are even worse. Barcelona was the last Olympics to have a decent mascot.
It's just not that hard. Pick an animal that has something to do with your country, make it cute/interesting/appealing to kids and you're done. Berlino was the perfect example. Sure, it's not avant garde and may not appeal to the hipster art school dropouts at an ad agency, but they're not the intended audience.
The Olympics are in London, so make it a bulldog or a lion. If those are too English, throw in a unicorn and a dragon, or make it a red squirrel. Anything reasonably cute and recognizable would be better than a pair of Japanese sex toys.
