i was running a 4x8 a few years ago and i was 2nd leg moving up for the lead and the kid didnt want to let me pass him. instead he kept elbowing me and speeding up to block me out into lane 2. this went on for awhile and i ended up just getting really pissed and throwing a huge elbow that caught him clavicle area i guess. didnt see him for the rest of the race after that. our team won but got the dq since that happen in front of a official but nothing happen to the other team.

a rival coach i knew came up to me a week later and told me that was a amazing elbow i should have just waited 50 meters until the backstretch and i would have been golden

was lining up for a 400 standing start... when he called set i felt off balance leaning a bit too far forward and raised my hand to try and get him to stand us up... he DQed me... I know you're supposed to be motionless at Set but if something doesn't feel right i've seen it plenty of times someone raises their hand to reset...

In hurdling, you have to a) make an attempt to clear the hurdle and b) make sure your entire body does go over the hurdle (and not around it).

Once saw a conference 60 HH champion lose his crown because the officials declared that the guy did not attempt to clear any of the hurdles in the race and instead purposely knocked them all down.

Also saw another conference champion (400 IH) lose his crown because an official saw his trail foot go around the hurdle instead of over it.

In other races, Nick Symmonds can attest to that it is possible to get DQed if you step on the lane lines in the 800m.

Except that is not a valid reason to abort the start:

"Where an athlete in the judgement of the Starter,

(a) after the command “On your marks” or “Set”, and before the report of the gun, causes the start to be aborted, for instance by raising a hand and/or standing or sitting up in the case of a crouch start, without a valid reason, (such reason to be evaluated by the relevant Referee);

...

The Referee may warn the athlete for improper conduct (disqualify in case of a second infringement of the Rule during the same competition), according to Rules 125.5 and 145.2."

My teammate won an XC race but got DQ'd because his boxers were showing and they weren't solid-colored. If they were solid-colored, he would have been fine, but they weren't. HS had very strict uniform guidelines.

My team wound up winning some relay even though we were soundly beaten in the race. The team that finished ahead of us had a guy wearing a friendship bracelet (this was 1987) and they were DQ because of that was considered wearing jewelery. Total BS rule.

I think if you poop all over your competitors legs, you would get dq\'d.

similar thing happened more recently in the 3200m to jake edwards. he jumped the gun in a race that he could have spotted the field 200m minimum and won. instead he jumped the gun, cost his team ten points, and my team won the league championship by only a couple points. that's gotta burn.
