It was obvious that Caster Semenya could run much faster than the 1:55 she ran in 2009. Easing up was not Caster Semenya's main goal at the World Championships it was showing her superiority over the field and grabbing the Gold medal.
Yes she could have run a few tenths faster maybe even one second but no more than that, she slowed because she was close to her max and had the win. A fit and healthy Pamela Jelimo would beat Caster Semenya 3 out 4 times they meet if they ever do and both are healthy/fit. Pamela Jelimo ran a full second faster than Caster Semenya no fewer than FOUR times and all of those race Pamela did much of the race solo.
If there is a candidate for the 800m WR its with Pamela Jelimo as Caster Semenya maybe a royal subject but the Queen and future of 800m is Pamela Jelimo!
For what it's worth, I completely disagree. Semenya would run past Jelimo and have time for a few bicep flexes coming down the home straight as she clocks a relaxed 1.51.
She had hardly been in structured training for any time at all and busts a 1.55.
It's all academic anyway. They're not going to race each other. (although they could put it on the undercard of the Bolt/Bekele race.)
You keep mentioning Caster Semenya's lack of 800m training when Pamela Jelimo had as about as much training when she debut in 2008. They both came into the 800m from other events and excelled at 800m; however, Pamela Jelimo DEBUT was light years superior to Caster Semenya.
first year at 800m Pamela Jelimo ran 1:54.06 and went undefeated with at least SIX sub 1:55.9 or faster
first year at 800m Caster Semenya ran 1:55.4 as her next fastest time was 1:58. Caster Semenya may have run as fast as 1:54.9-1:55.0 if she pushed all the way at the World Championships but no faster.

The Semenya case is political correctness run amuck. I think their are two forces at work in the IAAF. The third world cabal that is attempting to control the organization is bound and determined to protect a young black "woman" from Africa. Then there is the PC crowd that believes that even if Semenya is "male" that the invasion of privacy surrounding the efforts to prove "its" gender went beyond what is reasonable.
I don't know if she is a he, but there's looking at "her" and listening to "her" suggests there is a lot of testosterone running around in there.
But I will say this. I remember when Maria Mutola arrived on the scene as a teenager and while I thought she was certainly masculine looking I never doubted that she was female. I have lots of doubts about Semenya.

I don't think (s)he was ready to run 1:50 on that day, but you can't simply use the splits to say "(s)he couldn't have run any faster". Imagine for a moment that we take Wilson Kipketer, in his prime, and drop him into a high school state meet somewhere in the US. We tell him, "Wilson, try not to embarass these kids too much. Just take it easy."
Now assume he goes out and runs the first lap with the high schoolers, splitting 53, then takes it easy through 600 before turning on the jets on the curve and easily wins by 2-3 seconds. His final time of 1:48 is run with 53/55 splits. Would you assume he was maxed out, or would you say "maybe the splits don't tell the whole story?"
I doubted Mutola and obviously Kratochvilova had steroids coming out of her ears; who knows about Jelimo? But to let Semenya come into the picture and likely dominate the event for the next fifteen years, probably setting an enormous world record, as the handlers didn't want him going all out, would be a crime to the women in the event.
I'm not as familiar with drug testing in track as I am in cycling. Do they have a maximum testosterone level rule? If they do, surely s/he would test over that level for females, right?

You assume automatically that Caster Semenya is a male; therefore, capable of much faster than what she ran in the 800m Final. Well until the results are revealed, lets continue to call her what she is a female. Caster Semenya ran close to the best she could on that day 1:55.4 and not capable of too much faster on that day!
Pamela Jelimo three fastest times in 2008 1:54.06, 1:54.95, 1:54.99 and ran them solo. If she can return to 2008 form Pamela is the women's 800m future dominator.
She doesn't need to be a "male" to be banned from running with the women. Since the women's class is a limited/exclusive class, one must be 100% woman to be allowed into it. All others must compete in the open class (i.e. the one populated by men, but i think technically open to women as well if they qualify).

Now I have no problem (maybe some doubt) believing that after some serious training she was able to transform into an 800m juggernaut. I don't believe that her gender issue is the main cause for her improvement, it definitely is a cause but in my opinion the main cause can be linked to several other athletes and has nothing to do with gender. The thing that puzzling me is how some can consider her male/female organs to be a significant advantage although the male organs NEVER fully developed. The fact is if they were develop to the degree many assume the serious and rigorous training would make a young man/male alot more muscular than even Caster Semenya.
So its clear to me that even though she possess both gentials that the female side is more dominant. Now its up to the IAAF to release said information and reveal their decision to stop all the speculation and uncalled criticism of Caster Semenya.
Maybe a couple of tenths....yah.

Whether he has 95 or 105% male organs is not the issue and how would you know anyway. The issue is that he's a male, has male hormones and is therefore able to compete like any other male can compete. He has no business competing with women.
