Where would you rather live? Chicago or Los Angeles?

Have lived in both. Stayed in Los Angeles. no contest. Only sore losers will come on here and blast Los Angeles from the misery of their hell hole. Stay there...please!

I love it. Thousands and thousands of escapees from Chicgo and New York are transplanted all over Los Angeles. (go to a Cub or Yankee game in LA sometime). There are NOT thousands of So. The biggest drawback of Chi is the biggest appeal of LA - the weather.

Everything else is a matter of personal taste. Chi is the leading financial derivatives market and competes directly with NY. LA is entertainment capital of the world. So professionally, they are very different places.

If you can tolerate living indoors for 3-5 months a year, Chi is generally more appealing.

L.A. is the Track and Field Capital of the World with the Summer Olympics and IAAF Outdoor WC medals to prove it.

What I can never get is people move from their "Great" cities to some town they don't think is great, but they will never move back to their "Great" city or even be a part of the community they live in now. It's like they feel just because they moved there that someone owes them something.

Many people that move from big cities are selfish and self serving. At least their attitudes give off that impression anyways.

Tool, perhaps. Fear of the city, you couldn't be wronger. I'm a city boy, adopted at birth by suburban folk. They were, and remain, terrified of cities and scary nonwhite people; I spent every possible moment in Chicago, and now live in NY - the last place an American urbanophobe would call home.

I just happen to find NY and LA far more to my taste than Chicago. Gotta chuckle when you guys with such chips on your shoulders get so bent out of shape about that. It certainly doesn't bother me that you prefer Chicago and never plan to leave.

We watch LA w/ amusement, kinda like watching Jerry Springer, we laugh at the fools, then turn the channel, it does not mean we truly care about the town.

Sooo true. L.A. is full of loud mouth Chicagoans and New Yorkers who swear their loyalty and love to their 'home', while living in L.A. for the past 20 years! I think it's a guilty conscience or something. They left those pest holes and they know it; but don't want to admit it.

Chicago is a traffic hell with public transit getting almost as much delays as cars in jams. The food is terrible, everything is greasy and over the top.

LA is a traffic hell with hardly any public transit. The food is terrible, everything is paleo-vegan-glutenfree, tasting like cardboard and priced at $$$$.

Basically both are crap but if you have to choose one of course it's LA because the weather is so much better and if you ever miss snow, Sierra Nevada isn't that far away. Cost of living is lower in Chicago but it's not that much so if you have a decent profession your income would probably be scaled to that.

It's a tough choice of course because it doesn't include options to live in an actually nice city like Berlin or San Francisco.
