This is easily the BIGGEST MYTH in all of running. Take a look at programs that encourage and ones that do not. Now tell me which ones have more injuries.

Very true, there is no 'second wind'. Runners basically die in a race, slow down, recover when they become aerobic again, then speed up. The 'second wind' runners are usually way back in the pack because they're bad, and don't know how to race. I hate seeing 28 minute 5K guys sprinting into the finish. The biggest myth of all is that every African under 18 has circled the globe a dozen times in lifetime miles and all a white dude has to do to catch up is find the time to do the same AND also do whatever the African has been doing since he put in the basic miles.
If the engine is hot enough anything will burn (i.e. runners can eat whatever they want with no ill effects)
Taller runners have an advantage over shorter runners (most men's elite average slightly shorter than the norm, most women elite average slightly taller)
Don't worry about technique, your body will figure it out after many, many miles
The only way to get faster is to run high mileage
Anybody who beats an american at running has an unfair genetic advantage over americans.
Anything other than running will not help you run faster. Don't lift weights, stretch, do drills, or do ANYTHING other than run.

uh i work with someone that thinks running the 800 and up causes shin splints.
That runners enjoy every minute of running, and are always motivated to get going.

Yeah, a lot of runners I know don't want to run that day like 25% of the time, and this includes me.

Most high school and college Distance runners are very talented athletes.
Reality: Distance runners were other sport's rejects in middle school and early high school e.g cut from baseball team.
That the posters on the RW website are professional runners.
That one training plan/"formula" is optimal for all runners.
That the more you read/talk/blog about the running, the better you will be. Just run baby!
