Sorry again, should have previously emphasized the "can" here. Such depletion is volume-dependent! Just as Canova says, in the past I have had good success with having people do a *small* volume of this high-intensity work on the morning of a PM meet, or the day/evening before an AM meet. This seemed to "wake up" the muscles for the meet that followed.
However, I only did this with people who were very familiar with the exercise--it's not something I'd introduce on Race Day!--and, except for very fit and experienced athletes, I'd keep the volume even lower than Canova's 10x60m (often more like 6 x 40m and some practice starts).
