Maybe Jenny really believes in what New Balance stands for. If so, what's wrong with that? Barringer wasn't with Nike or living in Portland when she set her string of NCAA records last year. What's changed, simply because she's signed with a company she believes in?
It has nothing to do with what Barringer or New Balance stand for, and everything to do with the fact that New Balance offered her significantly more money.
Jenny's contract was for $850k a year. She can afford to buy whatever support she needs to help her.
She was NEVER going to sign with Nike. Some people just never get it. Nike has created this image where all of the idiots think that everyone's first choice would be Nike. That is 100% untrue. If Nike did not significantly over pay, they would not have any athletes. Jenny did not even visit Nike.

Also, no one can possibly know who is doping. We only know who is/did for sure from the ones, like Marion that got caught and/or admitted it.

$850K a YEAR?????? That would really surprise me. $850K over multiple years I would believe.
I think New Balance is giving Barringer one thing that Nike would not give her and that is MAJOR attention and MAJOR publicity.
I have never seen Nike give any of their athletes the type of media hype that Barringer is getting from New Balance.
No steeplechaser in the world is getting $850,000 in base.

Why is it such a certainty that Jenny is out just for the money? That's a dim view of not only Jenny but human nature in general. And where does the $850 per year figure come from. No one knows what Jenny's contract is other than Jenny, her agent, and New Balance. Lets give Jenny the benefit of the doubt--hasn't she earned that much from us? Why can't we believe that she signed with New Balance for a variety of reasons, including that she believes in the company and what it stands for.
Barringer aspires to a future career in politics. Could be that she didn't want to get into bed with an organization like Nike at this point and have that limit her possibilities down the road.
Portland is one of the worst cities for running with the exception of the summer. Boulder or Portland is no brainer!!!!
Anyone else notice the pics on the front page of JB at the armory? Her smile slightly resembles popeye with her squinty left eye.
Great runner though!
I was at the Armory yesterday. Jenny's lovely, and the kids adored her. She's brilliant with the press. She may be the most marketable U.S. middle distance or distance runner around.

What a lame question, I always laugh when I see that. Like running fast has anything to do with credibility in that area. I ran 13:36 5k and was a 3x D1 AA. Plenty of guys around me had no clue about the doping world. Do you have to run sub-13 to have an opinion?

No- in fact most of the opinions on the board, like the one that started this thread, in fact, arise from folks who can't break 20:00 in the 5K and have yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon, blaming its demise and their lack of qualification on the charity runners and complimentary entries given to celebrities.
What a ridiculous thread. Barringer likely got a great deal from NB. Plus, she gets to run with Maggie Vessey- looks like NB is trying to rebuild a mid-distance stable of runners.
Can Barringer outdo Pre and Decker and get all the American records from 800m to 10000m? From memory, probably a bit off on some:
1:56, 3:56/7,9:12(hers),14:44?,30:22.
