I seem to remember that Hall ran NYC on November 7. He probably took a month off, began running again the beginning of last month, and is pursuing a gradual buildup to a Spring marathon. 64 sound good and reasonable to me in this context.

Remember the number one mistake of marathoners is DECLARING yourself exclusively a marathoner.
Ritz found out the opposite: One sure way to be a better track runner was to investin himself the strength of a marathoner to crown it back with leg speed. If he goes back to the marathon now he'll run 2:06, too.
Terrence - you should know better. Ritz's success is a culmination of Brad Hudson AND Alberto Salazar's training, NOT one or the other exclusively.

This is a very solid run for Bairu (who seems to be at his best off the track). I think I saw somewhere that he wanted to do Houston, but couldn't get in because they wanted an American-only elite field; does anyone know how big a payout he got for his second-choice race?
I don't understand why everyone is slagging on Hall. This is normal mind you. You just don't know what his intentions are as others have pointed out so you can't judge whether a performance is normal or not and by default its normal if you can't discern his intentions, and no his intentions are not what he says either for example going for world records. Only very few people if at all know his intentions and no one can speak about his performance without knowing his intentions and you by definition don't know his intentions especially when he runs bad. Remember the words intention and normal. We have defined it for you.

Although I may be wrong, by the way Hall mentions New Orleans it sounds like he was (more than a?) little disappointed in this effort and will be looking to run (substantially?) faster in six weeks.
I agree with some folks who believe Hall needs to focus on the half/10k for a while and get a different stimulus.

Bingo...we have a winner. Also, the fact that he opted for a non-competitive, non $$$$ race like Phoenix, over Houston should have keyed you to his current form.
Agree with others though that Hall/Mahon need to get off the marathon train for a while.
