Can't find any verification now, but Paul McMullen broke 4:00 when he was 180 or over.
I can't find verification now either, but pretty sure this is accurate.
He played football in high school, but turned to cross country when he ran at Eastern Michigan University. in the early 1990s.
I live about a mile from Eastern and less from than a mile from when he lived after he graduated. I used to see him out and about quite often.
(Useless) side note; he has two children from his first marriage to Jill McMullen. Those kids have great genetics. Jill was a 2:08 800 meter runner and I remember watching her run and win her first 5k race one year before the Detroit Free Press Marathon (1994??) in like near 17:00 flat. That doesn't sound all that great, but my understanding was she did that on like near zero 5k training, My gosh, what super smooth runner. Paul was more a bull.
His kids would be about 8 and 13 now - I can only image what they could develop into someday.
