Salazar - Named Nike Coach of the Year by USATF

Not saying he is a good coach or a bad coach.

But, when you are handed the keys to a couple of Ferrari's and you get most of them to the track without wrecking them? Well, you can fill in the blanks........

+1,I think maybe it would be nice to give the award to a coach who does a good job with lesser runners andhas never really had the spotlight shine on them. I am sure there are plenty of DivII or III coaches who have spent years successfully coaching for little money or fame, why not acknowledge them?

This is Nike and USATF we're talking about here.

I won't deny Alberto's success and that he's a good coach. But heck, a Coach of the Year award given by Nike? Who did you THINK they'd give it to?

How about Coach Pat Henry? Juggling a men's and women's complete team to dual national championships along with administrative responsibilities. Alberto Salazar coaches a handful of professionals linked by a common thyroid physician. Of his athletes, only Yoder-Begley could be described as having a year above expectations and completely coached by Alberto for the full year. To even mention Tegenkamp on the press release is so full of it.

Except Salazar makes his Ferraris faster. He doesn't wreck them ahead of time. And the track is already full of much faster Ferraris but his beat most of the others.

hard not like Alberto, especially since my early running coincided with his big successes in the 1980s, and his track athletes have done phenomonally well this year.

It is surprising though that his marathoners haven't had more of an impact, given that that should be where he excels due to his experience.

Kara has done well, but below expectations, I think. She should have rune 2:22 given her track performances and her courage. Third place is good and all, but she didn't seem like a racer on the roads, like she is on the track.

We'll see if Ritz pulls out a 2:05. I'm really looking forward to Rupp and Ritz in 2010 - they should put on a good show.

I think 2:05 for Ritz is a bit unreasonable...2:07 maybe. Yes, the AlSal understudies will be putting on quite a show for years to come. An yes, AlSal deserves this award wholeheartedly. Congratulations to him, and thanks for the efforts he has made to make the US competitive on the world scene again.

The worst coach in sport period. Giving his athletes thyroid meds, "recovery creams", his BALCO affiliations, having teams of doctors for God knows what, endochrinologists at workouts it never ends with this guy.

He is the biggest bain of the sport and is turning US running into a completely immoral, filth ridden group of hacks. Win at all cost has always been his motto and why coaches or elite runners do not stand up to put him in his place once and for all is beyond me.

It is just a year or so before other coaches get desperate to compete and resort to his tactics. There is no grey area. There is simply right and wrong. HE IS WRONG period for what he has done by sporting rules and regulations. His athletes will now be depending on those meds for life and will possibly face the same fate as him with heart attcks at age 40 and daily hormone doses to stay healthy.

Wow...Where are your facts with these allegations? I know that Kara and Begley are not on thyroid meds. Kara is trying to have a kid, so I highly doubt she has been taking drugs that would potentially cause harm to a fetus. Salazar has a family history of heart problems which is the leading predictor of developing a heart problem. Heart disease is common in this country and not all of those who suffer have taken PEDs. All your speculation is just that. I know that someone might cite his article that has been cited over and over. Never in the article did he say that athletes should take PEDs, he just states that it is the athlete's moral compass that is the deciding factor in the decision to take PEDs.He may not be the best coach in sport...but certainly far from the worst. Stop with your holier than thou allegations and speculation. Know the facts before you run your mouth.

You're wrong. The road is littered with Salazar'a destroyed Ferraris.

Salazar has a dark cloud that follows him wherever he goes..... dirty doctors that find hypothyroidism and asthma in all of his athletes. Dr Smulovitz, Dr Di Pasquale,Dr Stray-Gunderson, Victor Conte. Mary Slaney. Wherever Alberto goes there is a trail of Androgel and Testoboost.
