Wanna know why the F-M girls run so fast? Because they promise the girls a ticket out of New York winters if they win.

Anyone else bothered by the fact that a girl's team comes from a school that sounds just like "manliest"? Yes, I couldn't come up with anything else.

States was a flat course, but it was raining all day and very muddy. Runners were falling and sliding around. The five boys races were first, then the girls, so the course was chewed up quite a bit.

It was a 5K, in case anyone wonders. I saw coaches measuring it Friday to check out various points.

Very impressive day- bad conditions and fast times. I had a girl run her best 5K by over 30 seconds in the 2nd to last race of the day.

F-M looked amazing- I couldn't believe they sweapt Toga, who just may be the 2nd best team in the nation.

Yes, I am using some "bizarre stats page" because all three races were on different courses, so you can't compare times.

As far as the bizarre nature of the statistics used in my post, I highly recommend you read a little about it. Its the closest I have even seen to actually being able to compare XC races that took place on different courses, at different times, etc. Its actually really interesting.

So did mine about 50 years ago.

i'm sure there are realistic fields that could be put together where either FM09 or TOGA04 would win

a field with a lot of individual stars helps saratoga because it puts some bodies between them and the fm girls (aka i think the saratoga girls would beat fm handily if you threw them into a footlocker-caliber race and scored it with the individuals displacing)

fm would need there to be a lot of bodies between their #5 and saratoga's #5 in order to win... which i'm not sure there even would be enough of at nxn, saratoga's #4 was 23rd in '04. maybe it could conceivably happen at some meet?

Believe it or not, some of us actually like having seasons. I know I'm ready for fall and winter by the end of summer, and then spring and summer by the end of winter.

STOP WITH THE TIME COMPARISONS

In NYS, states are at a different location each and every year. If you want to compare times, use the times from the Federation meet and/or NTNNY Regionals, both of which are at Bowdoin Park (although FM will probably skip Feds again).

I agree that time comparisons are meaningless -- this is cross country, not track. More to the point, for the FM girls to run a shutout at the NY State Meet, in the big school division, is barely believable. I cannot recall a similar performance (and I've been around a while). With only 11.3 seconds separating their number 1 runner from number 5, it would be quite a surprise if they don't win nationals.

I'm sure those girls are tough, but F-m has thrice the enrollment of Toga, thus 3x the girls to choose from. And while Syracuse is snowier, Toga is significantly colder. Not getting above freezing for months on end is the norm.

There's a reason they dominate wrestling and lacrosse and football, too.

I'm really happy for FM, and I'm going to let you finish, but Saratoga had one of the best girl's xc teams of ALL TIME.

FM barely makes the cut off for AA at around 1600 so Saratoga cannot be 3x smaller n00b. And FM is much colder. Go back to school

Can anyone tell me more about the NY state meet course as well as the 3200 meter PR's of their top 5? You would think with those times that they would all be sub 10:30 at least. Or does NY run 3k in track?

Rather than run up the white flag, I would use it as motivation. Tough to match that top to bottom, but why not give it a go?

I dunno about enrollment, because I don't follow HS girls' sports that much, but Saratoga is colder than Syracuse. The same lake effect that brings the snow brings warmth.

Someone noted that Mackenzie Carter has been running at a high level for years now- 1500 and 3000 bests-

7th grade 5:26, 11:20

8th grade 5:04, 10:34

9th grade 4:44, 10:37

10th grade 4:34, 10:12

11th grade only 800 times are listed but a best of 2:14.

12th grade- she just ran 17:36 at states.

To me this is textbook of how a young girl should improve over the years.

Congratulations to the FM team and their coaches for a job well done.

Saratoga is actually bigger. According to the enrollment stats used to determine which class a school falls into (counts only current 10-12 grades), FM has an enrollment of 1254, while Saratoga has an enrollment of 1690.
